In memory of Tovarisch and Ilka

June 6, 2012 by Elizabeth

We are so lucky to have an amazing base of supporters who are always thinking of the chimpanzees. Today is sponsored by Robyn Leff in memory of Tovarisch and Ilka.  (It’s easy to sponsor a day of sanctuary for the chimps as a gift or memorial (or just because!) – just go here.)  We’re so grateful, Robyn!

Your support keeps this guy supplied with as much watermelon as he can eat:

Now that is a picture of Summer Time!

Thank you Robyn Leff in memory of Tovarisch and Ilka for creating this experience for the tribe.

It is a pure pleasure to be of whatever small help I can!

Tovarisch and Ilka were two Caucasian Ovtcharkas (a rare breed of livestock guarding dog from the Caucasus Mountain Region) who taught me much of what I know about the importance of inter-species respect. Today is the anniversary of Tovarisch’s passing. (You can see some pictures here, if you are a dog sort: http://www.flickr.com/photos/benlevy/3404145446/lightbox/)

I am just thrilled that the Cle Elum 7 are finally able to be who they are as chimpanzees — the real thanks goes to those who made this happen.
