Foxie making a nest

September 12, 2011 by Debbie

During cleaning this morning, Jackie and I spotted Foxie starting to nest with some blankets, so we grabbed the camera and quickly got a few paparazzi style shots.

This is such great news, a long time coming – a giant step for Foxie! Lots of excitement now and more coming soon for everyone on Young’s Hill. YAY!!!!

That’s my girl Foxie. You keep up the good work! I like the hat, trolls and star blanket she included. 🙂

I have noticed lately that Foxie is partial to the soft body Troll dolls, now that’s not to say she has abandoned the hard plastic ones. Also, she is more apt to to touch or even play with some of the enrichement set out daily, something she has not been fond of in past. These are big steps for Foxie who wouldn’t even touch a blanket in the past.

Thanks for the info Denice, in previous blogs you all told us she doesn’t particularly like soft items, but that’s changing, slowly, but she’s doing it. One day she’ll make a fat, downy nest, just like Missy and Jody’s. Foxie is such a happy chimp it’s hard to think she’s still recovering from her years of imprisonment, i.e., not wanting to touch soft things.

Debbie, does Foxie still make her phantom movements and clap when she’s building her nest? Any ideas as to why she seems to build her nests in a corner?

Foxie does still make her “phantom nesting” movements along with clapping when she’s starting to possibly nest with blankets. I’m not sure why she chooses to nest in corners, since I can’t get inside her head, but perhaps corners have more security? Personally I prefer to have my bed in the corner or against a wall instead of the middle of the room, so I’m completely extrapolating but it’s possible it may be an instinct to feel more secure.

She’s been carrying around a doll with purple hair for three days. And it’s not a troll, just a baby doll!
