One of Burrito’s most endearing qualities — and he has many — is his unadulterated enthusiasm for food. He is one of the least picky eaters I’ve ever met. Here he is devouring some lettuce:

Linda (Portland, OR) says
Mr. B. could gnaw on a cardboard box and I would love that boy!! So wonderful to see him enjoying what he loves……….doesn’t he love spaghetti too?
Question….. if Burrito loves lettuce, do you suppose he also likes to eat it because it contains so much water and maybe he quenches his thirst that way? Just curious.
Great pic Elizabeth!!
Elizabeth says
Sure, Linda, that’s possible, though the chimps do have access to fresh water 24 hours a day.
The chimps here all seem to love lettuce — it’s even been known to elicit food squeaks — but I’ve met other captive chimpanzees who don’t care for it at all. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Candy (Tyler, TX) says
I so enjoyed Burrito’s food day for his birthday, last year, any plans for the same next month?
Elizabeth says
Great question, Candy! Burrito’s birthday is coming up on January 6. We haven’t started planning his party yet, but we’re always looking for creative ideas!
Denice says
Candy, don’t worry all parties have plenty of food the chimps love… I mean what’s a party without food you love.
Theresa says
Watching Burrito sqeak and eat is one of my very favorite things to watch. He enjoys his food so much.
Jeani Goodrich says
WHen ever I see pictures of Burrito eating I always hear his food sqeaks in my minds. He is one precious boy!!!
Peter Cross (uk) says
Good old Burrito, he’s such a handsome lad. If I was living with 6 females though I don’t think I would be a picky eater either. Grab it while it’s there!! (Sorry Ladies only joking). 🙂
