That was a long play session! Loved every minute of it. In between the knees, elbows, hineys and hands and feet I saw some pretty, happy chimp grins!!
Thanks for catching this JB!

It’s so great amusing to see them climbing and running around and being so physical. And the tickle laughs are the best. I

Jojo wanted a piece of Missy and was that a display from Missy (all so slight but I do think it was a display).

I thought it was a display too although a mild one. I loved this video!!! All the running, pulling on each other, and laughing was just the greatest! Thank you, J.B. I had a rough, 14 hour day and this was just what I needed.

There is nothing that makes me happier than to see our chimpanzee people playing. Thank you J.B.

I see what you mean about Missy’s mild display. Did Jody start it off? Then they both seemed to let it drop and got back to playing.

I LOVE this video, we get to see Jody joining in the fun, then Jody and Missy doing the display waddle at one another. Seeing those two display was fantastic, never seen it before. As I was watching the fast-paced playing and I thought to myself how there are chimps of all body shapes and sizes.

Thanks for letting me know that this was posted. It does my heart good to see them all so happy and enjoying life. Me thinks we can learn much from them. Thanks Keith and all of you for everything you do!!! Cle Elum Loves Our Harrier Friends!

That was a wonderful video, JB, thank you. I loved all the romping and laughing, but especially the play on the rope when Foxie climbed over Missie to get down. What a kick! They do seem to be getting more and more playful with each other.

I loved the part on the rope too, Jeani. It made me think of the strings of trolls the caregivers sometimes make for Foxie!

Is there such a thing as a play display? That’s what I thought it was.

Watched it over and over!!! What fun they were having! It warms my heart 🙂
Yes, there was a bit of display behavior between Jody and Missy. They both exhibited what is called a “bipedal swagger”. My interpretation is that it was all part of the game – no one was actually getting upset. But it can be difficult to tell sometimes. Annie actually does this quite often during play, and we think it has led to some fights due to misinterpretation, especially between Annie and Foxie. Play behavior naturally incorporates a lot of fighting behavior (one of the theories of play behavior is that it allows animals to hone their fighting and predation skills), so play understandably requires a lot of trust between individuals. Thankfully, Missy and Jody seem to have that trust!

I’ll admit that “bipedal swagger” sounds much better than my “bipedal waddle.” When they were outside it looked like Annie, not sure, in her watcher mode. I noticed that right after the swagger Jody grabbed a blanket and started a nest, with Foxie watching. Is making a nest for someone to sleep in or could making a nest be comforting and relaxing to the individual? When I saw Foxie watching Jody start a nest, I though I can’t wait for the day when we see Foxie making a nest.

I am so amazed at the fact that they get along so well. Is it always like that? I wish more people could understand the plight of the Chimps. This group is certainly blessed.
