April 8, 2010 by Elizabeth

This morning, Jamie received her first pair of boots in our Chimps’ Choice challenge from volunteer Lisa. Keep ’em coming!

Thanks, Lisa!

I love the Vanna White display of the boots……and Jamie’s “come hither” finger tweak. She’ll be on hog heaven with all of the boots she will be getting.

I love to to watch Jamie love her boots!!! So when are you guys going to build a closet for Jamie to store her precious booties??

I don’t think I’ve ever see Jamie jump up and down like that, reminds me of when you take a child somewhere exciting and they jump up and down with glee.

Kat, I agree with you, her crooked finger coming through the cage made me laugh out loud. The way Jamie was fixated onto those boots is amazing. Whatever makes these chimpanzees happy, makes me and everyone else happy.

Isn’t it so wonderful to find out something one of the chimps love so much and provide them with it? Love it.

I think we all agree that making the chimps makes us all happy. Boots or trolls or whatever. If they love it, they get it. I love that! Seeing Jamie so happy is heartwarming indeed.

When a girls “says” gimme and it’s about shoes! Well, we all know what has to happen!
    Lovely modeling too!

What fun for our dear Jamie! I wish we could have seen more of HER enjoying the boots. Thanks, Lisa, for your donation.

It is absolutely amazing to see Jamie get so excited about something! I can’t get enough of her joy and enthusiasm! Did we ever get an answer on what size of boots we should be shooting for? I know she can’t really fit her foot into them, but bigger the better, or any size will do?

Oops! I just went back and read the older blogs, sounds like bigger, the better (but she’s going to love any boots regardless). Thanks! I was thinking a good source for boots of diverse sizes would be contacting your local 4H group. If you get in touch with the leader, they can put the word out with the parents for donating big, used boots!

Yes, any size boots will be good and a variety of sizes would be nice. It’s very unlikely that there is a pair of boots out there that would fit her feet width-wise because chimpanzees’ opposable toes, their feet are easily twice as wide as a human foot.

I was watching the video again, and at the beginning, when the model, I’m assuming it was Lisa, was boot stompin’, Jamie was trying to stomp her feet like Lisa. Interesting and a fun video to watch over and over again.

I have a question. In this video and others, when Jamie receives a new pair of boots she basically goes nose-to-boot. Why is that? Is she looking to see what’s inside? Is she smelling them? And how good is chimpanzees’ eyesight? It almost looks like she’s very near-sighted, but I don’t want to assume anything.
