Early morning activity

July 1, 2009 by Elizabeth

It’s always interesting to see what the chimpanzees are doing when we arrive first thing in the morning. On a typical day, Jamie might be doing headstands in one of the front rooms; Foxie, Jody and a troll or two are play wrestling; Burrito is up and ready for breakfast; Annie and Missy are playing a lazy game of chase in the playroom; and Negra is still cuddled in bed. This morning when I arrived, however, Jamie was the only person up. She was enjoying a beverage in the front rooms while everyone else slept in. A few minutes later, Foxie had gotten out of bed and Jamie served as accomplice while Foxie tried her best to demolish one of the overhead lights in the playroom. (Don’t worry — they’re well protected.)

This is hilarious!! The same thing happens at The Elephant Sanctuary! I really think sanctuary residents should be allowed to help in maintenance and repairs. They already help in testing construction… 🙂

NIce to see Jamie dresses for breakfast! Ah chimps, engineers (demolition) and politicians and so creative at all their endeavors!

How interesting to hear a little about their early morning habits!

I personally think Foxie wanted a little more “shut eye time” and wanted the pesky light to go out.

Their balance is just incredible, that bar Foxie is sitting on is two inches wide (if that, I think it’s inch and a half) and with Jamie biting her toes and pulling on her leg I find it hard that she was able to stay upright.

LOL!! I loved this video! Foxie was sure mad at that light! Its hard to say what Jamie’s goal was -help or annoy? And, Amy – so true about The Elephant Sanctuary! Those girls get a little rambunctious as well!

This was a fun one to watch!! I like my peace and quiet in the morning, too, Jamie. Foxie, you are quite the gymnast, balancing on a little bar. It did look like Jamie originally was trying to keep Foxie from falling but then decided it was more fun to heckle her. Thanks for the great video and description Elizabeth.

I agree with Denice – I think Foxie was saying “turn out this light so I can sleep in some more!” Nice to see Jamie dressing for breakfast 🙂
