Business as usual

February 1, 2009 by J.B.

You’ll be glad to know that everyone is doing well, and although the chimpanzees are still trying to figure out where things stand after the fight, for the most part its business as usual around here.

This morning, Jamie kept herself occupied by playing with towels and water bottles (the loud noise you hear in the video is from Foxie hitting one of her trolls with a spoon!). She’s somehow always busy, and you can see how serious she is when she’s engaged in one of her many tasks, like pouring water from one bottle to another:

In the afternoon, Jamie, Foxie and Missy played outdoors. Foxie, of course, brought her trolls:

Thank you JB for letting us know they are all okay. Jamie is always so focused on her tasks it is a pleasure to watch her. I hope they all figure out where they stand peacefully and I am sure you do too.

Thanks for the update JB. It is nice to hear things are settling down.

If I look at the picture of Foxie on the Sanctuary home page, and then look at this picture of her here … what a difference! She looks YEARS younger, so much healthier, and much more vibrant.

    Nice. 🙂

I’m glad things are peaceful there, even if a bit tenuous.

Thank you, JB, for the great video & the beautiful photo of Foxie! Imagining Foxie hitting her troll with a spoon made me laugh!! She sure was making a lot of noise!! 🙂

I’m so glad to hear that all is well after the conflict. Hopefully they have everything settled & won’t have any reasons to fight like that again….or at least for a long, long time. Love & hugs to you all.

Thanks for all the updates this weekend! I hate to think of them fighting too, but with close quarters and such, I guess it is bound to happen every once and awhile.

Audrey – I agree! I laughed imaginging Foxie hitting the troll too! Poor little Troll, I wonder what it did? 🙂 I would have loved to see that on video. Although, Jamie concentrating on her water and bottle transfers was a joy too!

Have you been able to witness any new or broken friendships? Has there been a new pecking order established?

Is Burrito himself today or is he laying low after getting roughed up by the ladies?

    MS –

Burrito has been laying low since the fight. Not to make light of what happened, but I think his pride was hurt as much as his body. However, last night I saw a glimpse of the old Burrito. We set up a forage in the front rooms for dinner (this is when we put the food out first and let the chimps in rather than letting them in first and serving them individually), and when I opened the door, Burrito went barreling through the rooms bipedally. I have to admit my heart stopped for a moment, because it was the first time he displayed since he was beaten up. But the girls screamed and ran away and everything was fine.

these last two posts remind me of how much captivity sucks ..
I mean I know all of the animal kingdom fight (of course including us humans) .. but the confinement’s gotta be brutal for them at times ..
.. even though the folks at CSNW and all the wonderful volunteers are no doubt giving them the best care, tending to their needs and bending over backwards for them in every possible positive way, they still have limited space behind bars and wire meshes .. they know they are trapped .. I think their animal instincts and chimp spirit and intelligence inside of them tell them/remind them somehow that they are not in their natural environment being who they are supposed to/meant to be .. I can’t even begin to imagine their frustrations and all that they’ve endured in their past lives… I think they know more than we’ll ever know about them ..
..of course I could be wrong, but that’s what I think

great to know that everyone is doing well (sigh of relief)

JB, thanks so much for the update – it is comforting to know that Burrito felt confident enough to display so soon after the fight….and that the ladies were willing to tolerate the display.
