Jamie in the doorway

December 28, 2008 by Sarah

Jamie doesn’t seem to like being out in the snow, but she does like to hang out in the doorway. Here she is in the doorway yesterday, using a scrub brush to scoop the snow into her cup. After I took this video I went inside to get her a better tool – I called from inside “Jamie come get a spoon!” She came running in to get it from me and then went right back to the doorway with it.

Thank you Sarah for getting her a spoon. The brush just doesn’t seem to be getting the job done, does it? She is a smart girl though. She is trying her best to get that snow in the cup. I love the fact that they are eating the snow and seem to love it. Thanks for the video!

If that dang snow didn’t pack so well, she’d have had a great little slushy made for herself! Thanks so much for posting the video, Sarah!!

Wow, I KNOW our Chimp friends understand English. I remember once seeing J.B. stand by their door and saying in a normal voice “We are going to eat outside today so everyone go out there.” They all immediately went outside to have their lunch. They are smarter than us. Most of us….me especiallly….don’t understand much of their language. Thanks for posting the video Sarah.

Hmmm…a slushy…What about concocting a bunch of syrups in the chimps’ favorite flavors — banana, nut, carrot, pomegranate, etc etc — and let them make their own slushies??

she looked like she was smoking a cigarette in this one 😉

I thought the same thing Kate, I think she was “smoking” a crayon!! As always Jamie fascinates us!

She looked like she was smoking but I’m guessing that’s a crayon? Love the updates – thanks.

I just noticed that “Planet Earth” was added to the wishlist – so wanted to let all the bloggers know that I already have one to take over to the sanctuary – so please don’t purchase another.
I know how generous everyone is – so wanted to make sure to get the word out asap. I already wrote to Sarah, Diana and JB to let them know I will be getting one to them this week.

What a clever girl our Jamie is! It is so nice to ssee they are still enjoying the snow, especially since it will be around awhile. 🙂 Thank you Sarah for posting the video. It still is a thrill to see videos of the chimps and the snow.

Oh dear, We ordered it from Amazon when we saw it on the wishlist. I don’t know if I can reverse that or not. Will take a look now.

Oh dear, it was mailed today from Amazon. I think it might be a good idea for us all tell each other know if we buy a DVD. Perhaps even “lay claim” to them ahead of ordering them so that we don’t duplicate too much. Isn’t it great to see them getting so much pleasure from their TV?

I am so sorry, Margaret and Karen – I really was hoping I could catch it before this happened. I already owned this video, that is why there was the problem of miscommunication with the wishlist.
I think I mentioned I owned this several weeks ago and asked if it was something that the chimps would like – but with all the Christmas excitement that message may have gotten lost in the shuffle.
Hopefully it can be returned to Amazon without too much trouble and then some other fun item can be found for them!

You guys are the BEST ~ the Planet Earth series is SO cool and my goodness the chimps almost ended up with two!

Do the chimps like music? I have a DVD for next year if they do. It is a National Geographic and they put Christmas music to some of their footage of different animals.
Is there a way to check off a square on the wish list so we would know when it was taken?

Jeani asked if there’s a way to know when something on the Amazon wish list has been purchased —

I’m thinking that you could always keep the CSNW amazon wishlist url bookmarked:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2L5WRNKBKB8B2

I think the “unpurchased” list comes up, but just underneath where it says “Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest’s New Wish List” you’ll see a drop down menu under “show me” — and you can choose to see the items that are “purchased”, “unpurchased” or “all”

Right now, for example, there is another DVD called “Africa the Serengeti” listed as unpurchased (so far, anyway)

(The Planet Earth DVD is not on the purchased list at the moment, but I think that may be because it may have been removed from the wish list when it was realised that Pam was bringing one already and before anyone realised that Margaret and Karen had bought it for the chimps)

P.S. Margaret and Karen: don’t worry! I’m sure that the Planet Earth DVD that you bought and which was already shipped out can be returned and exchanged for another great DVD that the chimps will love!

Amazon is great for accepting returns – they include instructions with everything they ship out. If/when it comes to us, we’ll turn it around. For some reason, it didn’t show up as purchased from the wishlist, so I did delete it when Pam emailed to let us know that she had it. Sorry for the confusion!
