The weather has been perfect the last few days, and the chimps have been spending a lot of time outside. Negra often stays inside for much of the day, no matter what the weather, but today you couldn’t get her to move if you tried.

What a regal lady! She is so sweet. I wish I could be enjoying the sunshine with her. She makes it look so inviting.
Shelly Knapp says
Oh my gosh, okay – see that last photo of Negra? She actually has her lips pursed, inviting me to give her a big kiss! 😉 THAT DOES IT. CSNW, here I come. I’m pitching my tent on the property line and squatting there. I can’t stand being this far away.
These photo’s should be sold for zillions of dollars – they’re worth gold. Certainly enough to fund getting the remaining chimps out of labs and getting legislation passed for all resources to go towards alternatives and ending research on animals (broken record here, I know…)
dee says
hi Negra – you look so lovely & boy are you beautiful
I’m so glad that you & your friends have more choices to do what you want to do in addition to all the love & support you receive from your friends at CSNW – sweet dreams as you nap!
Shelly Campbell says
Shes a LADY…whoa….whoa…whoaaa..shes a LADY, talking about that little lady….and the lady is @ CSNW……..You are a beauty Negra!!!! I just received an email @ work from “Project R & R ” an action alert regarding GAPA, The Great Ape Protection Act. The bill is now in the committe. As it moves through the congressional process, it is vital to get as many legislative co-sponsors signed onto the bill as possible. This week Congress is back is session. As of today’s date, we have 23 co-sponsors. Increasing that number increases the bill’s chances of sucess.
If you have not done so alrady, please go to this websire and sign up, so you can emial your legislator and ask them to sign on as co-sponsor. If you would like more information on how to get involved, please email Jennifer Campbell, Director of MEmeber Services, NEAVS/Project R&R @ [email protected]. If you want to sign up for NEAVS/Project R7R go here: http://ga1.org/releasechimps/join.html?r=ipcYwt51bNOoE
GAPA seeks to end invasive biomedical research and testing on an estimated 1100 chimpanzees remaining in us Laboratories. The bill would also retire approximately 600 federally owned chimpanzeess currently in laboratories-many for more than 40 years- to permanent sanctuary.
Okay back to work!
Thanks !
Shelly C.

I really need to use spell check, but I am too tired to click it!
Cindy says
You continue to outdo yourselves!!! (or is it just the camera??!!) What I wouldn’t give to slide behind those eyes for a few minutes and view the world thru Negra’s mind. All these pictures are like windows inside them, so beautiful and intriguing. Keeps us wanting more and more!! Thank you so much, and enjoy these beautiful days!
Debbie says
Great pictures. She looks so content (and beautiful)
Shelly Knapp says
Shelly C ~ thanks so much for posting the info on GAPA!!!!! Folks, it’s so fast and easy to make a huge impact. Please consider making a literally 30 second phone call to your legislator and simply say you’d like them to support the Great Ape Protection Act. It’s always an aid that picks up the phone, they already know about GAPA so it doesn’t require a conversation ~ but it is documented that you support GAPA and really does make a difference. 🙂
Jeani Goodrich says
Thanks Shelly C. It was very easy to do and in a matter of minutes I sent off about 7 letters. I told my representative to check out CSNW’s website to see what one person can do. Since he is in WA I hope he gets ahold of Diana! I noticed you can download petitions so others can sign. Great idea! And it is all for you beautiful chimps.
mmg says
SOOOOO CUTE! She looks so happy.
Shelly Campbell/SR. CA says
I did the same with my letters Jeani, I always mention the CSNW to get the word out on what one person can do to make such a huge difference in this messed up world!! Thanks Jeani! I will also send it out in a blog and ask a couple of my friends on myspace that have 1000’s of friends in animal rights to spread the word, we have to do all we can to get these chimps all released from their prison in which they have been incarcerated for life just for being chimpanzees with a dna close to humans,,,,so sad!
Shelly Knapp says
Right on ladies! 🙂
Cindy says
I get all the neaves, project R&R stuff, if we had an email list we could all fwd stuff to each other.
Shelly Knapp says
Oh that would be great Cindy
Cindy says
One of the best lists of relevant sites is the CHCI (Chimpanzee Human Communication Institute) website links page, http://www.cdu.edu/~cwuchci and go to links. I have spent many hours looking thru them and learned tons.
Shelly Campbell/SR. CA says
CIndy I could not go anywhere clicking on that hyperlink, but when I copied the http://www.cdu.edu/ it opened up a catholic school, oops I do not think that is the right place……..hehe! Shelly c
Shelly Campbell/SR. CA says
I found it, that is something that is on all the sanctuary’s website and myspace pages, links to anything and everything to do with primates and also other animals too, I can get lost in all of those links and need a weeks vacation to cover not even a 1/4 of the info. I really love to get deep into the links on these websites, there is tons of fantastic tools and info , but like I said I cant stop when I get started and then my brain goes crazy thinking of all the chimps in the labs. I went to R&R and printed almost the whole frigin website, not kidding, I printed all of the excel spreadsheets with all the names and dates of which chimps are where and there is one that has 16 chimps but will not give up any info, names, dob’s, age how long they have been there, I am going to write them a letter tomorrow, what gives them the right not to give out that info????? Anyway alot of tears today reading some of the material on R& R’s site, some sad stuff, that is why we have to call and write lettes to get this bill passed!!!! WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!
Shelly Knapp says
Thank heaven for your passion Shelly C!
Cindy says
I messed it up, it’s http://www.cwu.edu/~cwuchci. OOps , sorry, it’s Central Washington Univ. and Chimpanzee Human Communication Institute. If that doesn’t work just google “chimpamzees ellensburg” and you will get right there. or google CHCI or spell it out. I guess it was late and my fingers were tired. Sorry!!
Audrey says
These pictures are so sweet!! I just love the way Negra likes to cover her head with her blanket….she looks so cute peeking out from under them!!
Isle Dance says
I love these lovies.
Margaret and Karen says
Excuse me for putting this on the blog as it does not have anything to do with our friends or even chimpanzees…..it is about dogs. I just read this in the latest NARN newsletter I I could not believe it! Please everyone…..go and sign this petition….
Help Stop “Artist” from engaging in animal cruelty
In 2007, the ‘artist’ Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the
street, he tied him to a rope in an art gallery, starving him to death.
For several days, the ‘artist’ and the visitors of the exhibition have
watched emotionless the shameful ‘masterpiece’ based on the dog’s
agony, until eventually he died.
Recently prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the ‘installation’ was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.
Take Action
Help to stop this “artists” from engaging in more animal cruelty by signing the following petition:

Negra is such a sweetie. XO

M & K – I did sign a petition for this a while ago and don’t know if this is the same petition … I just signed it again tho…
man oh man – the desensitization and lack of compassion & empathy by humans in this world is very upsetting and beyond frightening & despicable .. makes me sick
Shelly Knapp says
Margaret, Karen, Dee – I’m with you – I signed it too. M&K, thank you for blogging it.
Theresa says
Petition signed and state reps emailed to support the Great Ape Protection Act. The artist needs to be tied to starve while someone paints a picture of him! Cruelty in the name of art…sickening!
There are NO excuses to treat animals cruelly!
Negra looks so peaceful….what a gorgeous girl! It feels great to see her so comfortable and feeling safe.
There is a special place in heaven for you all…God bless you for loving and rescuing these wonderful creatures.
Audrey says
Petition signed. Thanks, Margaret & Karen, for bringing this to our attention!

Tamela says
Dee, That’s so funny; I thought the same thing about Negra’s hands. She does have beautiful hands. I wondered if anyone else would notice.
dee says
yeah Tamela – her nails are nicer than mine & longer too
Jeani Goodrich says
That makes three of us. I was looking at them and feeling jealous!
Shelly Knapp says
Dee, you’re more than welcome, thank you for the fantastic packet of R&R materials!!
That makes four of us on the nails……;-)
dee says
