How to Earn Your Chimpanzee Badge

September 13, 2008 by J.B.

It seems that great causes attract great people. Take Andrew, for example. Andrew is a local Boy Scout working towards his Eagle Scout rank. For his service project, he led his troop in building fire hose hammocks for the chimps at CSNW. Thanks to Andrew and his troop, the chimps will soon be nesting high off the ground. Can’t wait to hang them up!

What wonderful young men! You should be very proud of yourselves! The hammocks look fantabulous! I know you worked hard; those hoses are heavy. I can’t wait to see the chimps in them. Who do you think will try them out first? Good thing the CCC’s aren’t there because I’m sure the Boy Scouts would be smothered with hugs and kisses of gratitude. Thank you so much for caring and for all of your hard work!

RIGHT ON ANDREW!!!!! What an awesome thing you and the Scouts in your troup have done!!! I hope you can imagine how it will feel for those chimps to be able to rest so comfortably in the hammocks you guys made after decades of living in tiny, tiny steel bar cages. You guys ROCK!!!

Andrew and crew, your contribution of the hose hammocks is brillant! What incredible thinking to come up with this idea and to create them so attractively. Fantastic! We are sure that if we could speak the chimpanzees’ language or they speak ours you would be flooded with words of thanks and praise. Keep it up. What is your next idea?

It’s a beautiful, sunny day here today on Whidbey Island!! I am thinking of the Cle Elum Seven & hoping they are having fun outside in the sun over there!! I hope you’ve had time to put up their new hammocks…..it will be so much fun to watch them nesting and playing and enjoying another new enrichment!! It is just amazing…all of the things you have accomplished for them!! Just weeks ago, all they were experiencing were small cages in a dark basement. It brings tears to my eyes……..Love to you all!!
