Downtime with Lucky

April 29, 2026 by Sabrina

It’s been busy around the chimp house this week, but I managed to find a little downtime between cleaning and staff meetings to hang out and get groomed by Lucky!

You certainly had a captive audience. Who was that behind and to the left of Lucky? If they comprehend pictures in magazines they must identify the tattoos on your forearm. So cool

That would be Terry with the toothbrush

I love how Lucky was intrigued by your tattoos! They’re beautiful! Are they of chimps at CSN??

Hi Amy, all of my portrait tattoos are chimps that I’ve worked with in the past that had a big impact on my career and life

    Sweet?

Your tattoos made me think of a drawing made for Jane Goodall of her dear friend and famous surrogate chimpanzee mom named La Vieille. Here is the drawing of her on the artist’s page:

Wow, Sabrina! It would appear that a number of grooming specialists were called to assist Dr. Lucky in conducting her highly-complex grooming procedure, with Terry nearby to provide dental care as needed. I assume that one of your tats is of Lucky (or is it Dora?). Suffice it to say, the chimpeople who operate the Human Sanctuary Northwest take care to keep the non-human primates under their watch and ward in well-groomed condition.

Lucky is a gentle and precise groomer. Terry looked very interested, hoping to get a chance to join in with either end of his toothbrush. Rayne and her puffed lips face, that expression always makes me smile. When all was over, I bet you felt renewed! Lucky you.
