Easy Like a Sunday Morning

March 15, 2026 by Krissy Brasfield

While it wasn’t exactly quiet in the Chimp House this morning, I did stumble upon some quiet moments.

It’s been so fun watching George make friends.  And while Cy is definitely George’s defender, Gordo seems to be his closest friend.  Back in February, you got to see George and Gordo play, play, play!  But they also spend time grooming.  Well, Gordo grooms George, George grooms George.  George has adapted so well to his new living environment and social group, but he still isn’t grooming the other chimps.  Someday soon, we hope.

On the other side of the building, I caught Negra up on a bench in one of the front rooms, enjoying her meal.  Usually, when we serve a meal, everyone gets one item at a time before we move to the next item.  But not Negra!  She wants you to load her up with everything!  Which she will stuff into her mouth, hands, feet and sometimes her pelvic pocket, and hit the road.  Then she can take her time enjoying her meal, often times in bed!

These quiet moments are some of the best.

What a lovely post. This is obviously ‘the odd couple’ from this group…… Jamie and Burrito from the other side. It’s so good for both of them, as Gordo has never seemed to bond with anyone special before?? Dear Neggie looks so content, easy to please – just a warm bed and yummy food.

This makes me so happy for Gordo, glad Cy is still holding George close.
George’s “grooming/not grooming” face is funny!

Thanks for sharing these two sweet vignettes. Must be so uplifting to stumble upon quite moments like these during your busy day. Yay for The G Boys becoming good friends. Negra, living the life of a queen. As it should be.

As an older lady who enjoys sleeping in on chilly mornings, I too would love to have my breakfast in bed just like Negra.

Lovely to watch a chimp like Negra eating up close.I felt right next to her, while she was lying leisurely in bed on a Sunday morning enjoying her breakfast

Wonderful, delightful, chomping, and, chewing, noises fro Negra! Once again, It makes me want to eat some broccoli!
I am wondering whether George’s lack of interest in grooming others is becuase he has spent most of his life alone?
