Born 2004 at a Hollywood animal training compound. Actual birthday: April 5th

In the spring of 2025, we received a call about a lone chimpanzee living at a roadside zoo in Oregon that was being investigated for a variety of issues, including animal welfare violations.

George was born at Steve Martin’s Working Wildlife in California. We believe his father is Bo, who lives at the Center for Great Apes sanctuary, which would make him a half-brother to Tonka, who lives at Save the Chimps sanctuary. George was used for traveling photo ops when he was an infant and then shipped to Germany as one of over a dozen chimpanzees over the years used in a German TV show called Unser Charly.

After many months of careful meetings, and under the guidance of alpha male, Cy, George is currently living with a family of his own for the first time in his life! George screams with joy over his favorite foods and loves The Bray outdoor habitat–more space than he’s ever experienced. George has embraced his new life with incredible courage, willingness, and intuitiveness. We’ve been thrilled to see him initiate play sessions with Gordo, who was a bit of a loner, and look forward to his continued expanding friendships.

Become George’s Pal today! George currently has 22 Pals!
