Today’s blog post is all about the cows! Cow-uality (quality) time…get it?!
The sanctuary is home to our own small herd of cattle: Betsy, Meredith, and Honey. These ladies help to fire-wise the property by “mowing” the grass in their multiple pastures which they move around to throughout the year. Right now, they are in the upper pasture, which is my favorite of their pastures. The views are lovely both in the pasture itself, and on the way there and back from the Chimp House.

Another (informal) sanctuary resident, one of many deer, who I saw on my way to care for the cattle.
Summer time with the cows, for me, means both quality time with the cows and some quiet time outside. It can be a nice break when things are more chaotic in the Chimp House to go spend time petting Betsy (the most people-oriented of the cows) while everyone eats their grain, then brushing them (which also serves as a way to apply fly spray), before returning to the Chimp House.

Lovely views!
They have such beautiful faces.
Thanks, Ellen, fir photos of the lovely views and lovely kadies.
You have showed us such tranquil photos of our beloved bovines-and the beautiful PNW landscape. I can well picture Meredith, Betsy and Honey roaming on the pastures simply enjoying their present moments without a care. As you say, Ellen, when it’s somewhat chaotic in the chimp house, what better way to chill out with the bovines. In this case following the herd is most beneficial to well being. Thanks for sharing.
the views are peaceful and beautiful! i love the girls’ colorings. They’re so pretty
Cow-uality, very clever, Ellen! I enjoy your updates on the cow girls. The property, around the chimp house and as far as the eye can see, is breathtakingly beautiful. I can see why it would be good therapy to hang out with Betsy, Honey, and Meredith. I still smile at the closeup photos of you getting kisses (translation : big lick) from one of the gals. Thanks for these beautiful closeups of each individual. The last image of Meredith is my favorite. For some reason I feel as if she is shooting you the look Jamie gives Kelsi saying she’s had enough of the intrusive paparazzi! 😉
(Ugh, the summer flies! I’d love to know what product you use. Where I live the flies are a terrible nuisance, for cows and donkeys alike!)
Thank you, Ellen, for the update on the cows. Thank you for applying copious amounts of Shoo-Fly to their coats which, hopefully, by the time of Meredith’s birthday, will not be necessary.
Thanks for the update on Betsy and her besties! i was wondering how they were keeping. Next time you are with them please give Betsy some love from me!
Thank you for all that you do every day ?
Most sincerely,
Caroline
