I’ve been thinking a lot about George and all that awaits him. I am especially excited to see what he thinks of The Bray, which got me thinking about Willy B’s many (some recent!) milestones exploring The Bray. Here are a few more photos from his big adventure to the top of The Bray recently!
I found myself waiting and waiting for today’s blog!
Oh my goodness! Where to start? Tippy Tappy George!! He’s absolutely adorable there. So exciting to see him with a food puzzle. Makes me wonder if he ever has before. I’m so so happy to see him cheerfully interacting with Kelsi. How honored she must feel. I know I would feel tremendously honored. And falling asleep while having your head gently rubbed – how sweet is that? It’s gonna be so much fun getting to know George! Hopefully soon we can get a glimpse of Dora unabashedly flirting with him!
I’m already convinced that he and Dora are half brother and sister!

I have to agree with everything Paulette has posted regarding George. I have been anxious to see and hear more! It’s also fun to hear from those who are familiar with George and to learn how happy they are that he is in sanctuary now. Just wait until George spies Dora with her beautiful eyes…he’ll be a goner for sure.
Agree Nancy. I hope George’s friends continue to follow him here at CSNW. I want to know more too. And of course they’ll fall in love with every single other chimpanzee here. Each one is so unique and each and every one so darn lovable.

Thank you, Kelsi, for giving us a look at your interactions with George. He seems really smart to tacklee the food puzzle. He is probably use to interacting with humans as he was a performer at his orevious homes. Let’s hope his transition to interacting with his own species, the CSNW chimps goes as smoothly..

It is so nice to nice to see George settling in, he looks much more happy. it would be nice to hear some of the videos with no music so we can hear George interact. Geoege will be missed from us who know him on the coast, but happy he has more space in the outdoors, and will meet new friends.
posting PETA over the years I never visited George at the horrid, abusive Bandon game park….driving by a parking lot filled with tourists was traumatic enough….animals are not here on earth for human entertainment or education….they have rights…zoos should exist only as rehab or conservation centers…..
“Oh happy day” just about describes it. George seems so fun-loving.
I’ve fallen hard for him. Already. He looks so sweet, and easy to be with. So glad he’s at CSNW. One glance made me think of Curious George, the sock puppet. Can’t wait to know more about him.

It has been a pleasure to read the continued updates regarding George. It has increased my awareness in regards to these truly amazing animals that are in captivty and at the mercy of humans. It is beyond sad to think of George being held in the conditions that he came from. It brings me to tears thinking of him stuck in what he knew to be home. Thinking of him in those lonely consitions all alone on in a coastal winter is absolutely heart wrenching. I, along with hundreds of other people, find myself captivated by these small triumphs that he has made. I look forward to these updates every day and am grateful for not only your mission, but for you taking the time to update the public. He has captured the heart of so many. Now come time for George’s heart to be healed. His long life of containment is over. I love thinking about the life that he now has the chance to live. Now… because of the efforts of officials involved in the removal of these animals and all of the locations the animals have been sent to… they can live instead of survive. Thank you… from a person that lived in Bandon for a huge portion of my life. We visited the Game Park often and even have family that worked at the Game Park many years ago. It wasn’t always a terrible place. Such a shame to let something your parents accomplished proudly and lovingly deteriorate to the conditions it was closed in. The original owners were not bad people and its sad that this is what it ends as. That being said, at least its ended and the animals will have better chances to thrive.

Daylene, thank you for sharing that perspective with us. most of the first chimpanzees came to CSNW from medical research. They had been housed in the basement in individual cages. no view of the outdoors. No sunshine. All their babies were quickly taken from them. They were in very poor health. I think they gave Negra about a year to live. 15–16 years later, she seems to be getting younger every year. As you’ll learn, she is our Queen Negra. So I can assure you, George will be safe and healthy and happy. And loved! Since we have so many newcomers to this blog, I hope the team will put together a video for you about the history of the sanctuary and it’s residents with lots of before and after pictures of our beloveds.
Since many newcomers have asked, I think the quarantine is about 30 days. Then they will slowly expose George to other residents with caging between them. From there, they will have individual play dates. Then play date with two other chimps. Then maybe three other chimps. It’s a gradual process. Throughout the process, they will closely watch their interactions and group dynamics. Then they will take all of that information and decide where George will best fit. If that ultimately doesn’t work, they’ll try something else. It’s a very interesting process that we all enjoy watching. Sometimes it can be difficult to watch personality clashes but that is just a part of chimp life. Even our established groups have spats. they recently had to divide a larger group into two smaller groups. It never stops. The team is always observing and will always do what’s best for all the chimps. It will be really interesting to see how the other males interact with George. Of course, all the ladies are gonna love him! I think George and Dora have a future! But we’ll have to see what Willy B has to say about that!

So nice to see George interacting with you. My heart swelled seeing him falling asleep while you groomed his brow with the toothbrush. Spa treatments can do that! Enjoy every day with your new friend (that goes for both of you)!

What a cutie! It looks as if he’s beginning to relax into his new home already, and it will be great to follow him every step of the way. You asked if people who had worked with him could give more information about play and enrichment items….well, I don’t think there would have been any! No chance to do anytning but work and make money for the grubs who owned him. But he’s obviously intelligent to have worked out his blackberry board slready. It’ll be a case of trying everything you have there, and some things will click. How will you start the integration process? Will you put him into a room with only the caging between them so they get a first safe chance to see and meet each other? What does Dr Erin think about his general health etc……. I remember only to clearly what condition Jamie’s group was in when they arrived but just look at them now!!

Wow, what an unexpected bonus. I saw the video on YouTube and thought, I must be dreaming. Nope, my favourite chimp sanctuary just added a new family member!!
He seems like such as sweet and calm little fella?
Is it just me or is he quite small in stature or is it just that there is no comparison to the others yet, so he looks little.
He has quite the winning personality and can’t wait to see him integrate into santury life. He is now the official baby of the sanctuary.

Perhaps, I missed reading a blog about the plan for George, but, I would like to know when he will leave quarentine, and, when he is going to be introduced to the, other, chimps, especially, which group he will join?
They said in the letter that they sent out to donors that, due to the nature of the sanctuary’s closing and the legalities, they could not divulge it to us in advance.
