Art

August 24, 2011 by Jackie

As you may know, Jamie is an artist, though her medium of choice these days is usually pens and crayons, rather than paint. Perhaps she is more of a writer than a painter?

One of my favorite pieces from Jamie is the mask in this post. I found it while cleaning the playroom and was immediately amazed at how artistic and creative it was, so we’ve decided to frame it and put it in this year’s auction! I can’t wait to see how well it does!

Doesn’t suprise me that she prefers her left hand. The most intelligent people are south paws!

I love that while most chimps are right-handed, Jamie is a leftie.

Jamie never ceases to amaze me. What a smart girl! I love how neat and tidy she is with the cap returned to the pen at the end. 🙂

All the best people are lefties 🙂

I love how Jamie carefully puts the lid back on.

I often wonder how they know how to do such human things? Do they see humans writing with a pen and copy them or do they figure it out on their own? How do these chimps know to “write” with a pen, put shoes on their feet or put hats on their heads? I so enjoy the videos! Highlight of my day.

      Hi Linda,

We suspect Jamie was a “pet” in a human home prior to being sold into biomedical research, so it’s likely that it was during that time in her life that she learned to “write” and wear clothes, though chimpanzees do often learn though imitation.

Jamie never ceases to amaze me. Putting that cap on the pen at the end….love that. But, of course she did! 🙂

So amazing!!! I have to go in for a little surgery tomorrow and I actually have my card of Jamie drawing among my things to have with me while I stay at the hospital…of course I have my picture of Negra too!!!! These two photos and one of my dog make me feel a little safer when I have to be away from home…I feel they bring me good luck!

I have been out of internet service for a few days…which is good in some ways but not good that I have missed all these wonderful posts of the beautiful 7 and especially Missy’s big day. Happy belated birthday Miss Missy!
I will also be up in a remote area of Canada all next week, so will also miss next week’s post :(. I’ll catch up and read them all when I return.
Hope your surgery went well, Monica…I’m sure with the photos of your special “people” brought you good luck!
