Relaxation

August 25, 2011 by Jackie

I take a yoga class once a week and am often inspired by the chimps here at CSNW. Their lives are nowhere near the freedom of Africa, but they have mastered the art of being able to truly relax in their sanctuary. Negra, Annie, and Jody have all been spotted doing “yoga poses” while relaxing (see this post of Jody doing some of my personal favorite poses), but true relaxation involves much more than a stretch or a twist. Today, I went out to the outdoor area and spotted Negra kicking back on the deck. Her ability to let go with her expression is priceless! That is true relaxation.

Adorable Neggie!!! I think she has the summer time lounging thing down. I find the chimps inspiring in their increasing ability to just be who they are and feel comfortable doing so. It makes my heart happy to see them feeling so good. 🙂 XX

I see what they can do (be in the moment) as enviable. All the extra brain we’ve evolved just makes us driven and crazy. If there weren’t people in the world to shoot my mother, lock me up or send me into space, I’d wish I was a chimp or bonobo, I swear. When you look at pictures of them in the wild, they remind me of us before the mythical Fall. They are so totally there. Again, more to learn from them! Oh yes, and sleeping high in a tree in a great nest. I’d love to do that one time!

Negra is the Relaxation Queen–love those expressions. How she must love to look outside and see the trees, grass and sky, feel the sun and breeze, and hear the birds. Thank you for these photos, Jackie, they are lovely.

There is no one like Negra to inspire a sense of peace, wisdom and serenity. Thank you dear Neggie.

Well said, Margaret and Karen! Neggie is the epitomy of wisdom and serenity.
