How do you know when Burrito wants to play?

April 21, 2024 by Diana

We are always thinking about how we portray the chimpanzees. It’s easy to forget that our videos and social media posts reach people who don’t know much about the sanctuary, or sometimes much about chimpanzees in captivity in general.

When I was starting to put together today’s video, I had that in mind, and instead of just sharing a charming and playful Burrito, I decided to put some context around my interaction with him.

What do you think?

The chimp house must be haunted! There’s clearly a very silly ghost in there! 😉
I cant help but just laugh at Bub’s antics. How on earth can one guy be so darn playful and endearing?

Burrito is obviously filled with joy and living a happy life. He is proof of how well you are all doing your jobs. Thank you for giving these little folks a safe and loving home. They have earned it and so much more! :heartbeat:

Still enjoying being the crowd pleaser, bless him!
Unless your name is Chad, I don’t know why you guys don’t fight over who gets to work on the OG side of the chimp house! Funny that he has different play rules for each person: “this one likes tickles, this one likes to be run ragged..”
Thanks for today’s PM sunshine, Diana!

My one and only true love GOOFBALL! I just love him so much.

    (and yes Diana. Good job!)

It is so much fun to see the distinct personalities of each of the chimpanzees! Burrito has a heart of gold.

Burrito makes an adorable ghost, it is hard to believe he is 41. If I had to pant the way you did I would have soon passed out. I’m not saying I wouldn’t try it if I got to play with Burrito.

I was just today mentioning to some people about CSNW’s PRT video and comments from people who had never heard of PRT. You are absolutely correct Diana in today’s blog and I thank you for giving the full story to folks who may not be familiar with chimps or chimps in sanctuaries or chimp behavior. But those of us who are just love someone like Burrito for being the Chimp that he is, singular and separate, a 41 year old goofball. Not a carbon copy of every other chimp on the planet. He’s a guy living his best chimp life and you are the awesome folks giving him that life. Thank you, always.

Burrito has such a zest for fun and for life. Bless him! I love this video, except I was missing seeing his adorable face and then, there it was, yay!!!

Jeepers, I love this guy. Sometimes there is no need for language. No words necessary. None. Zip. Zero! Who knew a sheet tossed carelessly over your head could express so much?! I can’t stop chuckling.
How do you stop yourself from bursting out laughing—human laughter, not breathy laughter?! 🙂

This video made me laugh and laugh with such joy and amusement over him and his antics. I saw him today in a way I hadn’t previously seen him, as I’m sometimes slow to just see what’s in front of me. What fun!

I just love the handclapping, havn’t seen him do that to often.
And yes, well done Diana on the explaning.
I take that as I read the blog as part of the education that is so important.

Ahead of Earth Day, as I remind myself that we are stewards of this planet & it’s animals, I am so grateful & thankful for all who make this Sanctuary work! To all the staff, volunteers, donators & Chimp lovers out there-you give me hope every day that we can make a difference! The Earth is a better place thanks to you-just look at Burrito!
