Our many thanks to Gaynell Schenck for not only sponsoring a special day of sanctuary in celebration of Cy for his birthday (which we celebrated on March 12th), but also for her gracious understanding when this writer fumbled and missed posting it!
“I would like to sponsor March 12th to celebrate Cy’s birthday. He is a kind, calm, confident leader of his troop, taking care of everyone, especially Willy B. I love to watch him reading his magazines until he is called upon to take care of something for someone. What a guy, that’s Cy”
Cy is really an incredible individual and his presence and amazing heart are a gift to his chimpanzee and human family every day. Thank you, Gaynell, for also seeing Cy for how special he is and for giving us another day to celebrate him.

I’d say that EVERYONE won on this wonderful extra celebratory day honoring Cy! The author of the blog, the sponsor of today’s honor, the honoree and all of us who get to enjoy more photos of a favorite chimpanzee (among so many favorites.) Today’s Blog was just a great testament to love, caring, honesty, forgiveness, wonder and joy! How lucky we all are to be a part of it! Thank you!

So, last night, I was on the phone on my weekly Sunday night call with my friend. When we weren’t going ga-ga over Gordo or exulting somemora about Mora, I told her about the uninvited guests at yesterday’s forage on Young’s Hill. Her Majesty took offense at the avian invaders, and as such directed her Loyal minion Foxie the Fierce to drive off the ravens from Her Realm. “At first I thought that Neggie was alarm-calling about a snake,” I explained.
“Just when the chimps were celebrating St. Patrick’s Day…,” she clicked her tongue.
“Fortunately, Foxie came to Her Queen’s defense, and chased off the birds.”
“Well,” my friend added, “in honor of his birthday last week, I think that there should be a St. Cyrus Day in honor of Cy. The back-story could be that he drove the cows, elephants, giraffes, hippopatomi, Peppa Pigs, Scooby-Doos and wearers of plaid out of the Bray…”
My friend’s suggestion got me to thinking: Is there a St. Cy’s Day, and if so, when is it? As it should happen, today — March 18 — is St. Cyril’s Day. How apropos, therefore, that today should be another day sponsored in order of the CSNW’s resident reviewer of written repositories. Happy (additional) birthday to you, Cy!

Actually, there is a St. Cyrus’ Day (although it’s celebrated together with St. John, his follower) on January 31.The two of them are also called “Wonderworking Unmercenaries”. Cyrus was a physician who cured the sick without charging them.

Hooray for the saintly Cy, and thank you, Gaynell!

What a fortunate fumble on this sponsorship because now we all get to celebrate Cy one more time this month! And we get to look at all these lovely photos of our favorite alpha boy.
Thanks Gaynell!

Thank you Gaynell! The Chimps are always deserving of many celebrations so it’s wonderful to celebrate Cy again.
