Special Requests

September 3, 2022 by Sofia Castro-Loza

Jamie has several ways of letting us know what she wants, and when. Today, while I cleaned the playroom with volunteer Lizz, Jamie was banging on the caging requesting our attention. Because Lizz was in the process of hosing down the playroom we thought that maybe Jamie wanted a drink from the hose. When Lizz offered, she declined. So what did she want? We continued our cleaning and Jamie hit the caging again. At this point we stopped what we were doing because the task of figuring out what she wanted was more important than cleaning. I walked towards her and she led me to the human doors of the front rooms. When I got to the other side, she slid the cover of her favorite book, “Lucy: A day in the life of a young bonobo”, under the door for me to grab. Once it was in my hands she sprinted to the greenhouse and out to Young’s Hill. I followed her outside. Once I arrived to where she was patiently waiting, she started gesturing towards the barn. The only thing that she could ever want from the barn is the gator. At this point I’m not entirely sure that’s what she wants but I went to get it. Turns out, she wanted me to carry the cover of the book while I drove around the hill on the gator. She looked very pleased.

Jamie loves her bonobo books! You can donate more books and other much needed items by going into our Amazon Wish list here.

Thank you Sofia, What a great story and video !
I love that you drop everything to make Jamie happy.
She is so quirky, with all the things she wants, but amazingly, she tells you exactly what it is.
    I just Love Jamie:revolving_hearts:
I also wonder if she’s asking for things that she thinks make you happy too…..? It’s funny, but it almost looks like she’s looking at you, to see your reaction.

How lovely that you were entrusted to carry Jaime’s beloved book cover-quite an honor! She is quite a great lady! 🙂

Sometimes it’s fun to share a walk with a special friend. Glad you figured out what she wanted, we are just allowed to orbit in Jamie’s world and we’re lucky to do so.

My heart swells knowing that within this immense world there’s a little (but mighty and brilliant!) chimpanzee deciding exactly what she wants each day and thanks to her devoted caregivers, she gets it! Good heavens I love Jamie. I simply love everything about her.

And I love the two goof balls exploring Young’s Hill with her too. What a crack up!

Thank you, Sofia, for being such a great mindreader.

    Thanks, Sofía!
    Jamie never ceases to amaze…
Was that Burrito and Missy providing extra comic relief in the background?

Hello, first of all thank you so much for all you do for our wonderful, beautiful anazing cousions. i wanted to ask if you ever say no to a game of chase or a walk or anything that the chimps normally ask you to do? i understand there is a lot of work to do in cleaning and preparing their food, so do you ever say to them not today? Thank you again for all the things, no matter hiw small you do for them and your friends outside.
