Summer Shenanigans

June 22, 2022 by Grace

After celebrating its official start yesterday, we are in full summer mode here at the sanctuary! The season has definitely caught up and it is *warm* outside, with the sun in full force. After managing winter weather and cool spring temps, the jump start to summer has us (or maybe just me) sweltering in the heat. Today ended up being the perfect day to remind us (or, again, just me) why summer is so fun.

Diana brought us bowls of rose flowers and petals for both groups to forage, which was a hit! And on Jamie’s side of the building, we decided to fill up their two pools with nice cool water… and then we added a yummy touch- Gatorade!

The bowl of rose flowers, petals, and lilacs for the forage today:

Gordo enjoying his lunch in the warmth of the Riverview Greenhouse:

Jamie’s group has spent a large portion of today exploring on Young’s Hill, relaxing in the greenhouse, and spending time by the Gatorade pools. Cy and his group have seemed content to spend time in the cool front rooms, and right now I can hear Terry blowing raspberries trying to get someone’s attention.

Check out the video for more on today’s chimp-house-summer-time-shenanigans!

Aw, thanks for cutting the music so that we could share in the laughter, Grace!
I didn’t see any outtakes there- all good stuff!
And 3 bags of chow for Mr Gordito!
You guys are lucky to have the lilacs still. ours are long gone here, and now the roses are starting, especially the ruga roses along the beach.
Glad everyone got their shenanigans on!

The pictures were great and the video was wonderful. loved the Gatorade pools. also the way they approached them. They are so wondeful to watch with all their ideosycrancies. Wait for the pics or videos each day. Thank you to all you Caretakers.

Hi Pat! I hope you’re doing well. Yeah I thought it was cute the way they would taste the Gatorade and then kind of get a look on their face.
I wait for the videos and pics every day too!

All play is wonderful but it always makes my heart sing when I see Burrito and Negra together. He seems to know that he has to be gentle with her, and when she grabs his other hand, telling him she wants more, it’s so sweet. The pools seemed to be very popular…..you’re amazing at thinking up new and exciting enrichment for our favourite people!

I couldn’t tell if Neggie was tickling him, or tweaking his nipples!

OMG I can’t believe you said that. I was going to say it but I just couldn’t. LMAO

Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone in that! I debated whether to write it or not

Ha ha, I was just checking if anyone had said it already, because if not I was definitely on it!

This is a day of delux luxury. The bowls of rose flowers and petals are such a beautiful and thoughtful treat. Movable water pools infused with Gatorade. Lego sipping cups! I believe CSNW must be part of the Relais & Châteaux of sanctuaries.

Look how happy Gordo is sitting in his box with fistfulls of nutbags (or are they chow bags). What a great photo.

Thanks for the video Grace, even if everyone wasn’t happy to be followed about by the paparazzi.

Gatorade pools and flowers what a great idea for summer fun. I’m always amazed by how gentle and loving Burrito plays with Negra. He’s such a respectful chimp with her. Thanks for the wonderful post.
