All Good Things

June 15, 2022 by Kelsi

This morning when we walked into the chimp house, every chimp was super playful! Gordo was bunny hopping around, Annie was playing chase with Burrito and her caregivers, Missy was chasing Jody, Jamie was playfully foot stomping to her caregivers, Dora and Mave were playing, and chimps on both sides were grooming in the greenhouses. Every day at the sanctuary is a great day because the chimps are safe, secure, and cared for, but that does not mean that every day is sunshine and rainbows. Obviously, the chimpanzees have their own feelings and moods, just like us. Some days we walk in and one group is displaying, while the other group is calm. Other days it’s loud everywhere you go. However, most days you get a balance of some calm with a little bit of displaying from time to time. And then you get a day like today, where both sides of the building are just silly and playful!

While most people wanted to play, Negra wanted to sleep all day:

We are running pretty low on magazines. If you have any laying around, I am sure Cy would love to take them off your hands!

Aw, Neggie is too pooped.to party!
Nice that the previously elusive Gordito is coming.out to play!
I’ll have to see if it’s because I was already watching something or my bandwidth going wonky, but I had trouble reading the captions for Foxie, they blurred. Darn! I’ll just have to watch it again!
    Thanks for the playdate, Kelsi!

Apparently they know it is poor judgment to disturb Negra when she is settled into her pile of blankets…

Well wasn’t that fun?! A feature length video of chimphouse play! I think Mave was making herself dizzy. Is that running Lemur Leap a new move of Jamie’s? She’s too much. And I knew Gordo had a mouthful of water and I was waiting for him squirt you with it. He and Foxie would make a dangerous team.

Thanks for the wonderfully long video. I enjoyed hearing your giggles. If only your day was full of nothing but play, right?!

I’m loving the longer videos also. The chimps could not have been any cuter than they were today, I will watch it again because sometimes I don’t notice the captions in time. I am trying to remember when a video was made of a few of the chimps running up young’s hill and all of a sudden here comes Missy passing them all. It was probably about 2 years ago, I’ll have to search through all of the blogs unless someone remembers the name of it. Anyway, thank you so much for the video today.

Yes! I was thinking how much he has come out of his shell in the past year. It’s wonderful to see him so happy and playful!

I have plenty I don’t read, but remember Diana saying once that we couldn’t just ship any stuff, it needed to be chimp “approved” by the staff. And I think Cy would love a few copies of GQ. Probably wants to see which fur is in season this year. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

    Let me know.

    Cheers.
