Boxes, BidWars and Blankets!

September 19, 2021 by Sam Jones

Just like the title says this blog involves boxes, BidWars, and blankets! Gordo enjoyed his lunch while sitting in a box today. After lunch he found another box in the Greenhouse to soak up some sun.

The HOOT! online auction is still going strong! Bidding will end at 7:00pm Pacific tonight unless an item goes to BidWars. Even if you aren’t bidding, you might want to tune in to the auction site to see BidWars (explained on the FAQ page). If you missed the exciting live-streamed virtual event last night, you can still watch the recording on YouTube or Facebook.

Lastly, Jamie was spotted looking mighty comfy in a blanket nest today. The weather was a bit cooler, so big blanket nests seemed to be the theme of the day for a lot of the chimps. At one point Missy was so wrapped up in a blanket we couldn’t tell who it was until she poked her head out!

We can’t thank everyone enough who has participated in HOOT! this year. It’s so amazing to have so much support and help in expanding the home for these wonderful chimpanzees (and bovine!). You all are amazing!

Gordo looking fabulous in his box!
Honey B always watching.
Terry resting between a game of chase
Jamie in her blanket nest.
Burrito resting after a run around the hill with Chad. Katelyn and I were ahead of them racing Jamie in the gator!

I have no doubt, given the opportunity, Jamie WOULD be able to work out how to drive the gator!!

Work-related obligations kept me away until 10pm last night, so I missed the live. I just caught it now on YT, and wanted to say how nice it was to “meet” Karen and Don Young. It truly is wonderful to see them enjoy your gift to the fullest, in all weather. Blessings upon you both!

I played the recorded videos, followed the bidding, and was floored by the major donor gifts that came in during the live broadcast………a major fundraiser for the Chimps……CONGRATS….!!!

HOOT! was a wonderful event. As Linda stated, it was a pleasure to “meet” Karen and Don Young and Keith LaChappelle. So many remarkable people holding these 16 chimpanzees and four bovines in their hearts. CSNW has the finest caregivers, volunteers and supporters. Never ceases to amaze me!

Gordo in a box, I just adore him. And Jamie in her cozy nest, she must be tired after all her racing with gator! Thanks Sam for these great photos. Icing on the cake of a great day.

Such a great event! It’s thrilling that it was so successful. Sam, thanks for the great pics. I wonder if Gordo decided to get in the box because it happened to already be sitting in the exact patch of sun that he wanted to be in so wedging himself into the box just seemed like the practical thing to do. He’s quite a handsome fellow. And Jamie always slays me with her various antics — well, truth be told, in their very individual ways, each of the chimps slays me! How could it be otherwise? I’m always so grateful to be a part of this wonderful community of chimps, staff, board, and donors far & wide. Truly warms my soul and spirit…

I’ve had so many favorite photos of the chimps, but Gordo in the box is my new fave!

I want to thank everyone who bid on His Royal Highness Nutmeg. Seeing the way you responded to him really made the physical pain that I went through so worth it. I can’t wait until the next time I can donate a painting!

I also want to comment on every other supporter of this wonderful sanctuary and its very special residents. Watching the event live last night really opened my eyes to just how much your supporters really care about you and will never, ever let you fall. Seeing those matching donations come in so quickly just blew me away! And thank God for the generosity of those who chose to give!

But can I mention another group? These supporters have hearts just as big; they love these chimpanzees and cattle just as much; their love is evident each time they comment on the blog or on social media.

But their finances will not allow them to be a gregarious giver, worthy of standing ovations and public acknowledgement. So it is *those* supporters I would like to thank; consider this my personal standing ovation for those givers. These are the Amazon Smile supporters.

This wonderful programme allows those like me–folks who may be students, newlyweds, those beginning a family, and even those on fixed incomes–who dearly love this sanctuary, have been with it since its inception, and whose hearts are crying out for some way to give, and they have no talent to paint or design jewelry.

Amazon Smile allows one to choose which charitable organisation they wish to support and with each purchase you make personally on Amazon, they will send a portion of your purchase directly to that charity! And all you need to do is go shopping.

I see you. I know your heart, just like the sanctuary owners, staff, and volunteers. They all see you and know you’re there. I’m nobody but a poor university student that can paint, and I adore chimps and cows. You might even feel forgotten, but we know you’re there and you’re giving, making a huge difference just like the matching donors. And I want to say THANK-YOU FOR ALL YOU’RE DOING! The reach of this sanctuary’s supporters became evident last night, and while all I can do periodically is donate a painting and go shopping, I am so proud to be able to say that I AM a supporter!

    Cheers. :jack_o_lantern::orange_heart::yellow_heart:?:maple_leaf::fallen_leaf:
