Zero Kernels Given

July 13, 2021 by Kelsi

Lunch is known to be a more relaxing meal to serve. Breakfast is always exciting because it’s fruit, everyone loves fruit! Dinner is the last meal served before the end of the day and night bags are always on the mind! Today’s lunch was eventful for all three groups of chimps. It seemed Dora and Annie were yelling towards each other and everyone had something to say about it, well everyone but Negra. Negra couldn’t have cared less. The interactions weren’t bad, just loud. But Negra’s only concern was eating lunch.

I thought I might share this photo of sweet little Honey B.

What a great video. Nice to see that the originals are still enjoying one of their favourite hobbies…eating! And I was enjoying exactly the same yummy corn for my lunch too. It was Negra who taught me how to enjoy lettuce too……although I have to be a bit quieter about it. I’ve missed our beautiful bright eyed Burrito lately, but he’s his usual goofy self thank goodness. Love to all.

And while he’s getting tickled with his food, someone is on the background blowing raspberries to be served more (Tiny?)

    Negra has her priorities straight!

Hoot Hoot Screech! Do your human neighbors get to hear all that? They must wonder what it all means.

So Dora and Annie huh? Little instigators! Are they perhaps calling dibs on Willy? LOL

I could have sworn I heard Jamie making some of that ruckus!

Neggie’s not a fighter….she’s an eater! I remember at the integration, Mave was hugging Jamie, whose nose was out of joint, when Neggie reached out some lettuce to Jamie as if to say, “Jamie, have some lettuce-it always makes ne feel bet–no, wait, not that piece, that one’s mine”.

I think it’s safe to say the Chimpanzees love corn. Loud chewers annoy me usually but if I owned the website “Calm” I’d definitely record her chewing that corn. What a wonderful world……

Loved the comment “we don’t make the rules, we just follow them.” You caretakers are all going to go deaf from such loud noise on a daily basis.

Yes, my thought was, “their job just got a lot noisier in the last three weeks”!

Oh Negra! It appears as if both Negra and Jamie were pretty chill throughout the exciting lunch, both happy to enjoy the flavorful corn over the commotion of the new comers.

As primatologists, can you explain why this primate goes through physical changes (heart flutters, insides spin, happiness overcomes me) when I watch Negra and the gang chomp, chew, grunt, and tickle their way through a meal? Happens every time. How can we bottle up this blissful feeling?!

That is possibly the best video you’ve ever posted!
