The blanket shredder strikes again!

October 2, 2020 by Anna

As we welcome Autumn to the sanctuary, we also welcome the days of cozy nests. Negra in particular is usually found on top of a mountain of fabric,  with a nice big blanket pulled all the way up to her chin.

And then there’s Jody…  Jody loves a big nest… but she also loves to alter hers in a certain way.

You might notice how Jody’s “shred until comfortable” nesting technique interferes a bit with Negra’s “big blankets are best” nesting technique.  This shredding behavior really came to a head last year and Kelsi had to put out a call for blankets to refresh our supply.  Well that time has come again, we need more blankets!

This time around, we are on the hunt for some heavier duty blankets that are still easy to wash/dry but are less easy to tear in half (in addition to our usual polar fleece blankets).  We think some thicker faux minky type blankets might be what we’re looking for. We need thick blankets with a solid strong edge seam! Check out our Amazon Wishlist for some of the blankets we’ve added so we can keep all the chimps as cozy as can be this year.

    Hi, Anna!
One book and one set of headbands on the way….lemme gu3ss who they’re for, lol!

Quick question: I sent Neggie a sherpa a year or two ago, because they’re so soft and toasty, and lightweight. I noticed that you have a few more. Are they a pain to dry? Should we not send sherpas?

Hi Linda, I think they’re good but it depends on the fabric 🙂

Thanks, Anna, just seeing this now. Fabric, as in soft? Or….

After all these years I wonder why Jody decided that shredding blankets makes for a better nest. She so funny. If only you she would braid the strands together you might have something workable. Thanks for including a sweet nest photo of each sleepy headed chimp. Sleep tight everyone!

Sorry for the typos! Lesson learned — proof your dictation.

Have you considered just leaving out a pile of clean shredded blankets for Jody to reuse if she wants them?

Lol, I think they do! But you know Jo….”how many blankets do you want, Jo? –“Yes”.

The picture of Jody cracks me up. It looks like she’s been caught mid-shred and she’s thinking, “yah, that’s right. I’m tearing up a blanket. What of it?” 🙂
