The seven chimpanzees are pretty busy these days trying to keep up with/spy on/display toward/get excited over the happenings of the new neighbors. And when nothing much seems to be happening with the new neighbors, the seven are quick to stir the pot, if you will, anxious for responses from Mave, Honey B and Willy B. They haven’t been as interested in spending their usual amount of time with the humans or other typical activities.
Lately, Jamie has even been forgetting to collect her boots from the chute at night! So when I saw her sitting in the front rooms in an as of late, rare, quiet moment I had to scurry down the hall with the camera. (I am laughing and shaking my head as I type this because while everyone else is in bed for the night, Jamie is at this very second, repeatedly kicking the “howdy door” and hooting and screaming at the top of her lungs attempting to elicit a sign of life from her neighbors who are all quietly tucked into their nests for the evening and choosing to ignore their loud and unruly neighbor).
They are who they are. And we love them all the more for it.
Happy autumn everyone!

Nothing else to do with this but laugh as hard as you can and revel in how human-like they are.

I once had the greatest pleasure and honor to spend an afternoon with Jamie, and I must admit, I will never, ever be the same due to that experience. Jamie is beautiful, and a wee bit unnerving because her intelligence radiates from her lovely bright eyes and you feel almost small in her magnificent presence. Or that’s I how I felt. I love Jamie. Deeply. With all my heart. The fact that she almost forgets to collect her boots over disturbing the new neighbors is really something. Maybe it’s the seasonal change that has her riled up and she’ll settle down as autumn settles in. (As if!) Thanks Katelyn for capturing Jamie’s soulful inner beauty in these photos. You’d be hard pressed to sit across from a more formidable, fierce, funny, interesting person than Jamie.

Kathleen,
Jamie definitely has a unique presence, exactly as you’ve described. Now just wait until you meet Honey B! And then there were two…(fear grimace 😉 ). The wonder and awe of each chimpanzee person. 🙂

Photographies are very beautiful. it’s the peculiarity of chimpanzees is to have a look so deep that one has the impression that they see to the bottom of our soul. I don’t know if all chimps look like that, into the eyes … but what I do know is that they outperform humans!
I don’t understand this part of post : “The fact that she almost forgets to collect her boots over disturbing the new neighbors is really something. Maybe it’s the seasonal change that has her riled up and she’ll settle down as autumn settles in.” What did you mean ?
Linda says
Did you mean the boots part? She has them model some boots, and then picks out the ones she wants to sleep with. Otherwise, they thought maybe the season’s change has her out of sorts

Bright eyed Miss Jamie…How did you stifle all the yawning during your job as late shift “Door-Woman/Security Specialist” ???
What a fascinating girl…
Carey says
Oh those eyes…..what are they plotting?
Katelyn says
Carey,
Rest assured, it’s something. 🙂

I don’t comment often, but I always enjoy seeing and hearing about our Cle Elum Chimps!! I am looking forward to the excitement (happy) of meeting the new kids on the block!!

I love these reports! Thank you, Katelyn. I can relate
to Jamie’s excitement and impatience. I’ve had irritating new neighbors who for various reasons I had not yet met. Would have loved to have banged on their screen door when I know they’re trying to sleep to finally meet?? Think they’ll be intimidated enough to know who’s boss now? So many scenarios in watching this incredible merging of potential friends and neighbors.

Of the incomparable Jamie and her beautiful visage in these photographs…as Robert Hunter (6.23.1941 – 9.23.2019) put it so well:
“By damn, well I declare,
have you seen the like?”
