Negra’s not the most active chimpanzee by a long shot, but she was all over the place yesterday. Here she is looking out her new window (the photos through the glass turn out blue, so I doctored it a bit. I like the reflection of the clouds).
I love this expression!
She even investigated some enrichment, which she rarely does:

i am so, so happy they are enjoying their new unobstructed views; and i think neggie (as you wonderfully referred to her recently) is going to surprise all of us with who she is and what she has buried inside.
I was thinking the same thing as Julie. She finally coming out of her shell. I guess she and Buritto are really starting to react positively to the changes in their environment!
I am so moved by these photo’s. It’s so wonderful to see Negra involved in some enrichment. Just love these guys and all that the staff does.
That first photo is Negra is gorgeous but bittersweet. She has a look of yearning on her face as she looks outside at the grass and trees. I am so happy she has the unobstructed view she does now. That’s what it’s all about for me. Helping give these chimps get the life they deserve after all they had to sacrifice in name of science. I would love to know what Negra thinks about think when is in her reflective state. Gorgeous photos, Diana. Negra is truly a regal girl.
Leslie, I loved what you said about Negra, maybe she is, finally, making her way through the post-traumatic stress disorder she endures. I loved seeing her go through the enrichment bag. Do the chimps seem to sit by the picture windows since they were installed? I enjoyed the first picture, it was nice to see her upstairs looking out, with no mesh on the window.
Candy – the chimps definitely do sit by the windows.
