Chimpanzee Family

February 26, 2009 by Sarah

Related captive chimpanzees are scattered all around the country.  As some of you know, one of Foxie’s daughters, Angie, and one of Annie’s sons, Virgil, live at Save the Chimps.  StC is the amazing sanctuary behind the take-over of the now-defunct Coulston Foundation, among other feats. The chimpanzees at StC’s New Mexico facility are gradually all “migrating” to the Florida facility. Our blog regular Candace was sweet to think of sponsoring Angie (in Foxie’s name) on the Great Chimpanzee Migration. Angie and Virgil are in the next group of chimps to make the trip, and are both still available for sponsorship. Help them get to Florida!

Where is Candace’s post about sponsoring Angie? Are we going to try to do thisd together or is the plan for each of us to send $ independently? Angie and Virgil and among the few who are not sponsored yet.

Tamela cehcked this out and they had told her they were already sponsored as we were thinking of having the CCC’s all pitch in and sponsor the children!

Oh really, Shelly C? I just checked on the website and it has Angie and Virgil both unsponsored. We just donated $25 each in the names of Foxie and Annie. It feels good to know they will soon be in a safe and inspiring place.

I posted this to the forum back on Sept. 25th:

I wrote to Save the Chimps to ask about Angie -Foxie’s daughter and Virgil -Annie’s son. Here’s the reply:

Angie is here in Florida now, enjoying her time in the sun and on her island with 15 other chimps. We are slowly migrating the rest of the chimps from New Mexico and hopefully will have them all here by 2010. Virgil is still in New Mexico waiting for his trek across the U.S. to Florida and is doing very well. It takes awhile to form family groups that are moved here and it is also very costly so we are doing our best to get them all as quickly as possible.

Thanks, Tamela. I guess they don’t have their website quite up to date. It is great to think of Angie safely in Florida and will be good when they are all there.

I also sent $25.00 quite some time ago to help sponsor Angie, and I included a message that it was in honor of her Mom, Foxie. 🙂 Also, I hope CSNW and Sarah appear on the TODAY Show on Monday!! That is so exciting!! Congratulations!

What a great Idea for the CCCs to help sponsor the kids. I will donate $25 today. Thanks Tamela for your information and Shelly C for the CCC idea. Sarah, thank you for the information and I will be looking for you on the TODAY show!

I think I’m going to ask my sister to help sponsor Angie in FL as my upcoming birthday present (I don’t need stuff) Maybe when I get my tax refund I’ll be able to send some money on Virgil’s behalf. It’s exciting to know that they are able to trace two of their chimps back to our beloved Foxie and Annie.

Thanks so much much for letting us know about the migration! I didn’t realize that the whereabouts of Annie’s kids was known. I’m so happy to be able to sponsor Virgil as I sponsor Annie. The website said he is a gentle chimp – maybe like his mom?

I got a great note from Monica Naranjo of Save The Chimps today. She said that Angie needs $2405.00 more to finish her sponsorship to Florida. She is the only chimp in her group that still needs sponsoring. She was very pleased to hear about our blog and why we were helping sponsor Angie and Virgil.
