Spinning Enrichment with Negra and Foxie

July 7, 2026 by Diana 5 Comments

Enrichment Coordinator Ellen made these very cool fidget spinner enrichment puzzles a while back. Ellen is so creative and is always coming up with new ways to keep the chimpanzees happy and active.

The puzzles had been hanging up from the day before, emptied of their contents. I saw Negra looking, hopefully, for treats in them, so I first quickly got some smashed blackberries to add to them. Annie (not filmed) monopolized the blackberry compote, then left, so then I grabbed some raspberries fresh from the vine for the Queen.

Foxie was playing pass-the-doll with me and being very silly, so I decided to see what she thought of me putting a doll in one of the fidget spinners. Sometimes Foxie gets a bit anxious when her dolls are placed in unexpected places, but the fidget spinner seemed to be on her ‘okay’ list.

Negra has continued carrying dolls around with her too. I was able to get this cute photo of her as she looked towards the construction site of the Support Building:

Oh , The Queen looks like she’s losing weight…good, but not good:pensive:
Foxie looks like she appreciated your joke! That tender kiss at the end
Enjoy raspberry season. I thought of you guys over the weekend, when I saw a cake made only of cocoa and cherries, bc now I know you have a tree on the property

That was so sweet. I bet Negra would enjoy a little chocolate pudding in her spinner. 🙂 And what’s better than a doll that smells like summertime berries!

I just love seeing Neggie work on a puzzle. Even with her mobility issues, she’s as sharp as ever! Foxie is so cute how she immediately takes her doll and lays down. She’s got the sassiest, cutest face.

    Dearest Magnificent Queen,
You are extraordinary in everything you do. Your back is quite beautiful – just like you.
    Princess Foxie,
    You are darling and adorable.
As always, we send our Love.
