As far as Queen Negra is concerned, FOOD is one of life’s simple pleasures!
Some of Neggie’s favorite foods include primate chow, peanuts, peanut butter, Hawaiian rolls, potatoes (anything starchy, really), clementines, sugar snap peas and Brussels sprouts. But the simplest of pleasures (besides spring grass, of course) comes from romaine lettuce. Boy, does Neggie love some romaine!
Let’s all take a moment to enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures, with our beloved Queen Negra. Chop up a salad, prep some lettuce boats, or just grab a head of romaine, Neggie style.

Sweet Neggie!
The older we get, the more limited our simple pleasures are…we can no longer hang upside down like a bat….or win the race up the hill. But we can enjoy our fav foods.
Will you guys be bringing down some prickly lettuce for her from the top of the hill? every time I’m out in my yard mowing and I see some, I think of Negra.
I spent a lifetime hating lettuce! Then a couple of years ago, watching Neggie enjoying it so much, I tried again and since then I too have learned to love it. Her beautiful, sparkling eyes in this video melt my heart……she may have more health priblems these days, but she’s still enjoying her favourite pleasures.
I also wouldn’t eat salads until my late 20s.
Have you seen their “Eat your veggies!” PSA?
No, Linda, I haven’t seen that but I’ve been a vegetarian/vegan for most of my life which was why the ‘lettuce problem’ was difficult. I also love most of Neggie’s other favourites,, although I’m not up to the chow and Spring grass components. She can have my share!!

Thanks, Linda….that is brilliant and just so winderful to see Farmer Jo doing her thing.
She’s delightful, just enjoying simple things in life. Thanks for sharing.
Happiness is Negra enjoying her lettuce on her favorite perch with her dollies by her side. So sweet. I have this urge to gently stroke the soft hair on the back of her precious head. This video brought a big smile to my face. Nothing better than crunchy lettuce.
(Have you seen Negra use her newly installed grab bars? Or is our Queen still doing it the old way.)
Didn’t she use both the bars and new hoses in the front room at bedtime the other night?
When humans smack their food, it drives me batty. However, when a chimp does it, it somehow is so cute.
Loads of us readers feel the same! 🙂
My human exception is the father on the YouTube channel “Crazy Korean Cooking”. The joy that man gets from eating is incredible to witness! ( Channel not recommended to vegans who may feel triggered. They’re big carnivores.)
Darling HRH,
When you savor your romaine,
you evoke style, poise and calm.
Bon Appetit!
I too love all her favorites. Well, I haven’t tried primate chow, YET. What a pleasure to watch and listen to Negra chomp away on romaine. Bon appetit.
I wish we lived closer. I would grow my garden just for the chimps.
