George’s Anniversary

May 15, 2026 by Sabrina 14 Comments

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since George arrived here at CSNW. In the last twelve months he has accomplished so much, he went from a being alone without many social skills to help him navigate life in a chimpanzee group to being a full fledged member of a group of 7.

While Cy and Gordo seemed to have a soft spot for this new kid right away, not everyone felt that way. George initially struggled to find common ground with Rayne, which resulted in misunderstandings and some hurt feelings but now you can find them engaged in play sessions where they only have eyes for each other and no one else gets to join in.

George’s playful spirit and youthful energy have brought something special to our little sanctuary and now we can’t imagine life without him!

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already! It’s hard to imagine George lonely, depressed, and mentally suffering… Just one year later, look at this guy! Tons of friends and living the chimpanzee life he deserves.

Thankyou, Sabrina, you covered George’s progress from a rather rocky start at CSNW to him being a fully accepted member of the gang. George has flourished under your guidence and you nailed it perfectly by saying that you simply couldn’t imagine life at CSNW without him. Happy Anniversary, George, the first if many years to come. You are a star. :star2:

Oh George, you stole the hearts of the staff and the entire blog community when you arrived a year ago and continue to do so! You are awesome! You are not just a handsome fellow but you are fearless, resilient, a trailblazer and explore with abandoned.. You did things and went places others were hesitent to navigate. I’m smitten and will always be a big fan. My heart skips a beat when I see you. I had the same feeling when I met Negra and Foxie. I am so proud of you! Look at you with the rose! Happy first year anniversary to you. By the way my Grandfather’s name was George!

George seemed to score well in the food stakes……a rival to Missy with the tomatoes! I never noticed before, but his hair/fur doesn’t seem to have come back very well…..is it just a matter of time, because he’s certainly getting such a good diet.
Is there a food pecking order as there is with Jamie and co……they all seem to be pretty laid back and just happy food noises, no screaming!

You can tell George is well loved, he’s been groomed down to point of almost being hairless! 🙂 Little George has come so far in such a short amount of time. He looks so delighted with his watermelon bowls. Go George!

Today we celebrate George blossoming into George, and Cy for his guidance and steadfast devotion, and every caregiver who patiently worked day in and day out to make George’s new life so full of everything good. Yippee to everyone!

Many of us have noticed how bare George’s arms, shoulders and chest are of hair. Was he bare like this when he arrived, or is it a development over the past year? Think it would be helpful to us if you would explain George’s hairlessness to us in a blog. Did he and other chimps pull out his hair, for example? Thanks.

His group includes some pretty enthusiastic groomers, so that may be part of it.

I was wondering the same thing regarding George-his sparse hair and his sore on his shoulder.
