George’s 22nd Birthday in Photos

April 5, 2026 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

Today we celebrated George’s 22nd birthday, and his first here with us at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest! Caregiver Krissy planned his big day, and made sure it was filled with many of his favorite things. On the menu were grapes, blackberries, oranges, apples, strawberries, pears, baked sweet potatoes, cherry tomatoes, mini peppers, cucumbers, ice treats, bucket of juice, and popcorn balls made with popcorn and a small drizzle of honey and peanut butter.

Party favors for George’s big day included lots and lots of paper for nesting and many fuzzy socks and sweatbands. The party started indoors in the playroom before branching out onto The Bray, where Krissy had hidden several whole fruits at the very top of The Bray! George was too excited about all of his juice buckets and ice treats to make the journey all the way to the top of The Bray initially.

George enjoys his party.

George’s friends Cy, Gordo, and Rayne scored the whole fruit loot! Gordo is pictured here with a whole apple in his mouth. As I write this blog George is on his way up The Bray, while playing with Rayne.

Gordo and his apple prize!

One member of George’s group, Terry, was not able to be present for today’s party. Terry underwent a routine exam and some dental work yesterday, and stayed separate from his group today to allow him to have a little more time to rest before rejoining them. He is doing well and should be reunited with his friends tomorrow. We’ll share more about his exam in another post.

Terry, up close and personal!

We celebrated George’s birthday with Negra and friends as well. Negra continues to be separated from the group as a whole due to her mobility issues, but has play dates with different members of her group each day. Today, Burrito and Foxie joined Negra for a forage celebration in the Greenhouse. Jamie, Missy, Annie, Foxie, and Burrito had a breakfast forage to start off the day! Honey B, Willy B, and Mave also enjoyed a forage celebration, but I didn’t manage to get any good photos of their party.

Come back tomorrow for a video of George’s birthday festivities!

I look forward to viewing the video of George’s birthday party when it becomes available. I am very happy for him as he nears the end of his first year in a great environment to finally live.

I am sorry to read of Terry’s absence. With any luck he will be on the mend without any impairment of his Bronx Cheering abilities. And, as always, please take care of our dear Negra.

    Sending my love. T.K.

Happy birthday to the one and only George! At long last you have a glorious birthday celebration with fun and loads of your fabourite goodies to share with your buddies. So sorry that Terry missed out but no doubt will be given a few soft left over birthday treats to nibble on after his dental ordeal. Thank you everyone for giving George a tip top birthday and one he truly deserves.:sparkling_heart::heart::heart:

Happy Birthday to my Buddy, George! What a fantastic feast! And for him to celebrate with friends, now! Do they know a celebration is for themselves? And I join Tobin in sending the best to Terry and dear sweet Negra.

Happy happy birthday to George! What a menu. It’s massive!! Popcorn balls with a little honey peanut drizzle!! Wowza! Thank you Krissy for going all out on George’s first Bday celebration. And these photos are great. Especially Neggie partying at her little table. What a fun day. Sorry Terry missed out on the festivities. Hope he’s in good health.

Can’t wait to see tomorrow’s video.

The look on his face in that header photo just melts my heart…..he can’t quite believe that this is all for him! Good to see that he shared some time with his new buddy, Gordo ( the Odd Couple version 2!) and his teachers, Cy and Rayne. I can imagine him having the sweetest of dreams, now he’s learned to make snuggly nests. A true success story thanks to everyone at CSNW. Special hugs to Terry and our dear Negra too.

Happy Bday to the luckiest 22 year old on the Bray! Can’t wait for the vudeo with all of the squeaks! Grapes!!!! And every other kind of fruit!
If George didn’t get a whole fruit, at least his new bff did! I’m sure George wouldn’t begrudge him the apple.
Thank you for a Neggie update. I’m glad playdates are working out.
Hopefully, Teeny Tiny Terry gets to enjoy yogurt or pudding.
