Morning with Negra and Afternoon on the Bray

March 23, 2026 by J.B.

Due to her mobility issues, Negra has been camping out by herself overnight in the front rooms. Just as she would do in her favorite spot on the playroom catwalk, she’s been building comfortable nests with her fleece blankets and pulling one blanket over herself to block out the outside world. When we come to work in the morning, she’s…not quite ready for the day to begin. But that’s nothing a little amateur tap dancing can’t take care of.

Our deer herds have been gathering lately into a mega-herd of as many as 40 individuals. Lucky took an interest when some members of this herd strolled by the Bray this afternoon.

My day began with George and Dora tickling, wrestling, and laughing in the front rooms. Later in the afternoon, George was in demand again out on the Bray. Gordo is so happy to have a new buddy!

Having thought about Neggie throughout the night and all day today, it is heartening to see and hear her in this video. I was surprised to see that she was nesting up on a perch; presumably she can pull herself up with her arms. I am still hoping for effective treatment for her. Spring is here and there is a lot of newly arisen green blades of grass for Her Royal Majesty to inspect and savor.

Negra seemed to enjoy observing the tap dancing recital. Thank you for making our Gracious Queen comfortable and happy…and loved.

In my mind, every time Neggie nods for dancers, I hear her say, “Dance, monkey, dance!”
Someone asked me how they communicate to you when they want something. Neggie’s head nods and hand gestures are a perfect illustration of this. And there’s no denying that George’s glances over at you are saying, “I’ll race ya!”
Ill echo Tobin: so happy Gordo found a bro!

Oh, and I meant to say, that tap dancing does not sound “amateur” at all! Who’s the new hire with the tippy tappy toes? Same as the person with the drum skills?

I’ve been thinking about our Queen Negra since yesterday’s post, and its so good to see her sweet beautiful face. You are all so amazing, knowing just what will make her happy .
Thank you for meeting her highness’s demands.:revolving_hearts:

It’s always a tense and uncertain time when any of the CSNW family have challenging health issues and I was holding my breath when opening up today’s blog but lo and behold our darling Negra is looking very perky with that tap dancing recital! Heartfelt thanks to you all for taking care of this fiesty lady; oh and those video clips of Lucky observing the deer really made my day.

I too very causiouly opened the blog today thinking of what Diana said yesterday. Who knew what wonders a good night’s rest and a little tap dancing could do. I’ll mention that to my doctor at my appointment tomorrow.
Happy for Lucky seeing that herd and for Gordo’s pleasant walk with a friend.

It’s the little things that matter. Oh to make sleepy Negra so happy just because you’re dancing for her. Your Queen was clearly very pleased with your impersonation of Fred Astaire.

An audience with The Queen is always an honor, even moreso when she’s clearly impressed by her loyal subject’s dance skills!
