As Ellen mentioned the other day in her blog, the next step in George’s integration process is to have Cy join him. Well, as of yesterday, Cy is officially George’s roommate! And so far, as far as roommates go, they’ve been nothing but respectful of each other. The transition has been incredibly smooth.
They’ve shared meals, shifted for cleaning, and even had an overnight together—all without a hint of drama (which we can’t say for the groups surrounding them!). Cy has already done an amazing job showing George his dominance, but in true Cy fashion, that dominance comes with a lot of patience and guidance.
Cy showed a bit of chimp politics by politely stealing chow from George, which George didn’t make a fuss about. Since Cy loves magazines, they’re considered a high-value item for him. There was a moment where George was looking at a magazine when Cy displaced him so that he could look through the magazine first, moments like this send a message that Cy gets first dibs on certain items. George has also tried taking what seems like lower-value food from Cy, and Cy has let him have it, so far. Cy is known for letting others in his group steal from him occasionally, but if it’s something he really wants, like corn, he draws the line and has no problem correcting them.
George is a really smart guy and seems to understand what Cy wants or values most. Everyday, we are also more and more impressed by George and his social skills! So far, these two seem to be getting along swimmingly, and it makes us really hopeful for their future together.
Thank you for providing footwear to George as the temperatures get cooler in the Cascades. I hope that with time he will get the hang of this grooming business by being roomies with a very adept and vocal groomer. Looks like they may be starting a magazine-discussion club.

Those tender moments right about the 2:00 mark made me all warm and fuzzy inside. I bet it did for you all as well. Thank you for giving George a family, and for all the wonderful care you take of all our fellow creatures.
I am very proud of Cy for his willingness to live in George’s domain for a time and form a relationship with George, playing with him, grooming, and showing George the ropes in dominace. Love how gentle Cy is with others, allowing them to steal what he can easily give up while holding his own for what he really cares about.
Both guys dressed for the special new roommate occasion! George with his red and white sock (and then he added a second sock), Cy with his blue thigh band (a new twist that I liked!). Both having such a nice time together. I totally cracked up over Cy tossing his magazine pages when he finished with them and George gathering them up. Cy shot George a side-eye at first but decided to let George continue.

Call him a leader, a roommate, a friend or a mentor. Cy is everything and more. It is so wonderful to see him with George and to know that it will help George learn how to be a chimp within a troop. This guy not only lucked out in going to CSNW, but really hit the jackpot in getting to be roomies with Cy. We’ll have to see what he thinks about Stanley Tucci. George, you were really rockin’ that red sock.

How has George reacted to Cy’s alarm calls when this latter spots bovines in the magazine?
Cy is really an amazing leader! Calm and patient, but also strong and cool! I am thrilled to see him and George getting along so well. To go from never living with another male to wrestling and playing and looking at magazines with Cy… George has come so far!
Also is Cy sporting a stylish thy band?! I see George’s love for accessorizing must have rubbed of on him! I’ve never seen him wearing anything!
That is such good news about George. I so want things to work out for him there so he can have a family.
I love that he is fashionista with his socks and waste bands!!! I love watching videos of George and other chimps. He is so playful. Is he grooming Cy at all?
