Lost in Thought

October 27, 2025 by J.B.

Lucky loves to groom and socialize with her caregivers, but she is often more reserved when it comes to her fellow chimpanzees. During an introduction with George this afternoon, she ignored him for a full 2-1/2 hours before finally agreeing to the briefest of play sessions. Having fulfilled her social obligations, she then returned to her nest and her cherished solitude.

Some introductions result in conflict, others in newfound friendships. And then there are those, like today’s, that result in two chimpanzees sharing the same space at the same time and nothing more. Which is all you can ask for sometimes. After all, Lucky never signed up to be on the welcoming committee.

I don’t know why, but that just made me laugh LOL. That’s Lucky!

Thank you for sharing these beautiful portraits of Lucky…she is a very special lady?

I agree! Those are beautiful portraits of Lucky. I hope that she is able to see them.

She truly is photogenic, and “Annie pretty”

I guess with Lucky, what you see is what you get and she is being totally honest. At least she did have a lttle play session with George – eventually. I wonder what George made of this interaction, like was he curious at Lucky’s coolness or just took it in his stride thinking that maybe next time that lady will be a little more friendly. Either way I don’t think it will hold George back.??

This was his third meeting with Lucky (one at the mesh only and another together) so I think he’s starting to understand her.

I think this is a good learning experience for George,
not every Chimp is the same, and its not always all about you :revolving_hearts:

I’m in agreement with Paulette. I don’t know why but this made me laugh too. I love Lucky and we never get to see a lot of her because she is a private kind of a gal. She has a beautiful face, reminding me of Annie and she also reminds me of Negra for some reason. As you said, Lucky didn’t sign up to be on the welcoming committee. But she sounded like a very good sport minding her own business, she did not cause a skirmish, and she was polite enough to give George a little bit of attention. I’d call that a successful encounter.

I’d say all’s well that ends well. There was no adverse interaction and maybe things will be a little friendlier next time. But I think Lucky was being Lucky and George will learn that, just like humans, everyone isn’t the same.

I get it Lucky! I also enjoy my alone time! I’m glad her interactions with George were positive. Does George seem to be doing better getting on with the ladies?

    Thanks, JB
When the Californians mix it up, I feel like Rayne often sticks with Cy. Who does Lucky side with? Does she stick by Rayne?
