Growing Older Together

August 2, 2025 by Jenna

Burrito and Foxie’s friendship goes way back, long before they arrived at CSNW in 2008. However, since at sanctuary, they have played large roles in each other’s lives. If I had to guess, I would imagine playing is their favorite thing to do together. Burrito is always playing and he helps bring out Foxie’s silly side as well, although she is generally pretty silly.

Today, I found them grooming together in the Greenhouse and recorded it for today’s video. I love that they get to grow old together!

Check out photos of this duo from over the years:

I am always glad that the chimpanzees and cattle who have been provided this sanctuary home get to grow old — and indeed, grow — together. These photographs capture Foxie and Burrito’s life at their home. I especially enjoy the picture of Foxie and the pumpkin, and the look on Jody’s face.

The video from 3.2.2018 — starring Bubs and Fox — is highly recommended viewing.

How wonderful when chimps have a friend to hug, groom and grow old with instead of a lonely life in lab cage. Thank you CSNW for provding care and compassion.

Heartwarming and touching to see these amazing chimpanzees enjoying their precious time together. Loving and taking pleasure in each other’s company. Absolutely priceless.

I love that Bubs gave Foxie a spa day for her upcoming birthday!

They might be a little grayer than when they first arrived, but Bubs and Foxie are still just two big kids!

How were they friends before arriving at CSNW, were they housed together at the lab?

Oh Jenna. “ I love that they get to grow old together.“ I wholeheartedly agree with you! What a gift. For them, and for you. For all of us to witness.

(absolutely loved seeing Burriti, Foxie, and precious Jody with her ever familiar happy relaxed, droopy bottom lip.)
