Be Bold, Be Brave

July 23, 2025 by Kelsi

Today, George had the chance to venture out onto the Bray once again. Watching him explore this new part of his world serves as a reminder of just how remarkable he truly is. He seems to be fearless—even though he’s nervous, it doesn’t seem to hold him back. Considering he’s never had a space like this before, seeing him go out on his own is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

You will notice at the end of the video, George is laying down on a structure. For me, this is a great sign of how much more at ease he’s becoming on the Bray.

When I think back to Willy B and Cy’s group during their first few outings, there was always someone there to offer reassurance and encouragement. But George? He’s learning all of this on his own, and it’s truly impressive to watch him face new experiences with such bravery. So much has changed for George, and he has grown exponentially since arriving here, but it’s his resilience and courage that allow him to embrace the unknown and stay curious every step of the way.

i love how he charges around with gusto and excitement. And that he’s able and willing to be curious and explore.

He’s so energetic! Do you think he and Missy would interact well, given her athleticism and his energy? Or would that make them clash? And did I see (Kelsey?) sitting inside the perimeter where George was? I’d be surprised, but…

That’s Krlsi, JB was filming from the bottom of the hill and it looked like Diana from the top of the hill

No, it only looks that way; there are two fences between George and Kelsi. It’s hard to say whether George and Missy would get along!

George’s progress is fascinating! but I come to this site to be inspired by humans like you……it is impossible to watch/engage with current news feeds these days/easy to assume the worst about people……so heartwarming to see here the very best humans-on-planet……the vids are great…

He is doing great. What a positive sort of guy!

Do you think that a lot of his athleticism and some bravery is due to his young age? You know how it is with kids, not afraid of much. George hasn’t had the same background that the others had and not for as long, perhaps because of his age he is a little more resilient. I am so proud of all the chimps, to think how far they have come since arriving at sanctuary is astounding. Thank you all at CSNW for what you have done for them all.

His youth certainly plays a factor – some of it is personality and background as well.

    Go, George!
Just like Missy, he is making up for the lost years and using that space! Run, run! That fluid jump up to the pkatform impressed even you guys, it was so smooth!
And just like Willy B was, he’s out there alone but comfortable enough to nap in the same place that Willy B did: middle platform.
Who was making noise? Jamie’s group or Cy’s?

He might have been named after Curious George but out on the Bray he is definitely a Dora the Explorer. I love to see him gallop and then take a rest.

George is so brave! I am so proud of him! Even though he’s nervous, he still challenges himself and explores.
Also, he’s quite the fashionista! First the waist band and now the sock! Blue seems to be a theme…

When I first saw the blue stuff on his foot I thought that he had been hurt when meeting Cy….
But is was another fashion statement thank goodness!!

Apes are relational so it’s sad to see him alone. It’ll be so satisfying and heartwarming to see him with friends soon. Well, relatively soon anyway.

Can the Cle Elum group George when he’s out? Do they react?

    • J.B. says

      July 25, 2025 at 11:57 am

They could see him from their playroom – that’s who was making the noise as George ran down the hill. But for these first outings, we’re keeping Jamie’s group out of the greenhouse and off Young’s Hill so that George is less intimidated.

To see him run and jump to get out there is amazing. I said this once before, but he must feel like he has died and gone to heaven.
