We have many celebrations today, hence the name, Trifecta!
First up, today is Negra’s 52nd Birthday! Negra is known as “The Queen” of the sanctuary. She is well-respected and sits upon her throne, or her nest, the majority of the day. Negra is our eldest resident and we are thrilled to celebrate her every year.

Next, it’s Terry’s 35th Birthday! Terry is the most gentle, human-oriented guy we know. Blog readers may know him by his special ability to endlessly blow raspberries in our blog videos. He truly makes every day better!

Additionally, today is the 17th anniversary of the Cle Elum 7’s arrival to Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest (Jamie, Jody, Negra, Missy, Annie, Foxie, and Burrito). We unfortunately lost Jody in 2023, but the others are still thriving in sanctuary. 17 years and counting!

Lastly, it is also Animal Sanctuary Caregiver Day! It’s a day to celebrate caregivers all around the world for the work they do every day, to better the lives of the animals they work with. Shout out to our team at CSNW! We are all dedicated, hard-working chimpanzee lovers and I’m proud to be apart of this team.

Wow, rolls, corn AND banana cream! I’m sure there were peanuts at breakfast to make it a perfect birthday!
I hope King’s came through with the coupons for the rolls a month back, as promised. They were going to send me some, too, I asked that they just send them all to you.
Yay, for the caregivers, too! (and this includes the volunteers in the kitchen and enrichment, too, we see those banana cream pies, you Wizards of Things Wonderful!) So many reasons to celebrate!

Young’s Hill looks like the Land of Oz, almost as if Mother Earth got dressed up in her finest for the 17th Anniversary celebration of the Cle Elum 7’s arrival. Yay for lucky number 13! And yay for rolls and banana cream!
Queen Negra may be celebrating her 52nd birthday but in her soul she knows those numbers need to be transposed. She’s 25. I’m certain of this. Thank you, thank you to every caregiver who helped along the way to make dear Negra blossom into the person she is today and helped her to age in reverse. When I reflect upon Diana and J.B.’s first encounter with Negra in the horrible dark basement of the Laboratory for Experimental Medicine (LEMSIP) where she was forced to be a biomedical research subject, and I compare those images with the ones in today’s video, my heart swells with appreciation and gratitude. There are no words that can express what I feel. Thank you.
Happy Birthday to Terry. What a loving and gentle boy to groom his delicate rose before he eats it. We should all respect natures perfection like Terry. I salute you, Terry, with a loving raspberry blow!!

Every day should be celebrated as Animal Sanctuary Caregiver Day. You are the.reason the sanctusry exists for the residents thereof. Jody – forever in hearts and memories. Terry – maybe the raspberries are your way to pronounce roses. And, Negra, survivor of all survivors. Hopefully your sanctuary years have erased some of your life prior to 2008. i envy your nest making skills.
