Yesterday caregiver Ellen and I found ourselves with some free time in the chimp house while most of the team was busy at a training workshop. So of course we filled our time doing some positive reinforcement training with the chimps, check it out in today’s blog video!
Oh, Burrito and his endlessly tappy toes! maybe if you train Jamie on the Kardia while he’s there, he’ll see. Or show him a video of the person on the other side of the house who’s good at it, was it Terry or Willy B?
Thank you for sharing these Medical Care videos. This weekend, the TV show Have I Got News for You had a piece of trivia about the people who think they could beat a horse in a foot race, or a grizzly bear in a fight, or pick up a chimp. And the question arose, how much does a chimp weigh? and I’m at home screaming “I know the answer to that one!” :joy:
And in the past, I have seen videos of the hippos at Cincinnati Zoo stationed in place while they make paintings with them. And people in the comment section where talking about how they must have had the hippos chained in place. And I was able to explain that no, it’s just PRT at work.
It’s always fun to observe you working (playing?!) at PRT. I could see the wheels spinning as each chimp offered up their responses. For Burrito, being a wiggle worm makes it tricky to focus. He’s like the class clown! But he was much better sitting still for the wand as opposed to offering both hands/fingers, in place, and holding for the Kardia Mobile. Best part, he’s trying, engaged, and he’s doing it like only Burrito can!
Kudos to Jamie too. She was happy watching TV and having you slip her treats on the side.
I love these PRT training videos. I know that they are expecting a treat but I think they seem to enjoy the interaction with the staff too and that makes them each a more willing participant.
