Quality Time with Mave and Dora

April 30, 2025 by Kelsi

One of the best parts about this job is watching the chimps spend quality time with each other. A few days ago, I was walking past Dora and Mave grooming and they barely noticed I was filming because they were so engrossed with each other. Watching interactions like this is always a reminder to slow down and savor the time we have with the ones we care about. Click here to watch Mave and Dora groom!

It’s Wednesday so obviously there are bonus photos!

Terry:

I wanted to share some photos of Jo, because I am always thinking about her, but especially today. She is always and forever in our hearts.

I counted 19 raspberries enunciated by Dora. Such diligence in her grooming technique (either that, or Maeve was way overdue for a grooming overhaul).

As with the video on Sunday’s blog, and the photographs posted on the previous blog today, I thank those of you who put together these visual tributes to our beloved friend. We love and miss you, Jo Jo.

Mave and Dora are so sweet together. What a tender little moment. So quiet (with the exception of a few raspberries of course!) as they concentrate on each other, Dora grooming with fingers and Mave with her lips. We do not see much of Mave these days. She’s good at avoiding the cameras so this close up video is extra special, even if the paparazzi did get a finger poke.

That second photo of dear Cy is one of the best I’ve seen of him. You captured something very special, it’s right there in his eyes. Something gentle and cheeky and warm. In Terry’s photo, you could count every hair on his face and head. He is gorgeously floofy!!

Jody. Funny how a single photo can instantly bring someone back to life. I love that third image of her. And the first. Okay, I love them all. Jody never took a bad photo. She’s so lovely……. I hope these images made you smile when you selected them and I hope you truly enjoyed searching through past images because now, with a little a bit of time, maybe the joy that is Jody outweighs all the suffocating sorrow.

    That little poke!
A bit of Jamie in all of us!
    Thank you, Kelsi
