Walking in the Rain

March 30, 2025 by Diana

We all had an adventure on this walk the other day!

It was fun to join the chimpanzees getting caught in the rain.

It reminded me of the very first heavy rain that the Cle Elum Seven experienced. Thanks to this blog, you can learn more about that experience here: Rainstorm Bravery

The photo of Missy in the doorway, watching the rain is still one of my favorites:

I noticed that Burrito alternated between walking quadripedically and upright, alternating between speed and efficiency and the desire to keep his hands from getting wetter than they otherwise would. With any luck, Bubs and friends had access to towels once they reached their house.

I am sorry that Jamie, Missy, and Annie had their fur and feet become sodden back on World Animal Day in 2008. And, yet, how appropriate that they would first encounter a downpour on that day. As I have said before, my profound gratitude to all of those who, in 2008, delivered the Cle Elum from death and brought them into sanctuary, and life.

Warm tea for all! I could almost feel the damp!
Thanks for the link, Diana. All these years later, theyre now all fans of going outside! When it’s dry, of course.
    Hoping for spring grass soon!

Linda, I’m sure Neggie has her radar set up for the first signs of her favourite Spring grass peeping through, and that rain will help. Can you just imagine them all sitting round with their warm tea, discussing the weather? I wonder what was going through Missy’s mind as she stood there watching it back then after so many years not knowing about it…… a lovely photo of her.

And now they have a choice to enjoy or avoid the rain. I wonder if they’ve ever seen a caretaker walking in the rain with an umbrella? Thanks for the great photo of Missy looking at the new wonder to her, falling rain.

I absolutely loved reading both posts. Isn’t it funny that the same characters then and now experienced the rain, with the exception of Burrito who truly was a trooper today! And it was touching to see the friendship that still continues between Missy and Annie. Annie still choosing to follow and stay very close to her BFF.

That photo of Missy!!! Oh my gosh, it’s just too perfect. Her body language, arms hanging droopy at her sides, says it all. And Jamie rushing in to dry herself on the towel only to realize that the towel might serve another purpose as good protection on another trip. Get that girl a rain poncho and yellow rain boots!

I love how Jamie never loses her signature strut, even in the rain. Gotta keep that air of authority about her!
