Many of you were wondering why the heck Stanley Tucci was on Cy’s Valentine’s day cards this year! Let’s dive into how we believe his fondness for Stanley started.
We believe his love for S.T. began from watching two of his favorite movies, The Devil Wears Prada and Burlesque. He does love a ton of other movies (he isn’t picky!), but he is genuinely overjoyed and completely captivated by specifically S.T. movies. Once we realized his fascination, we made a YouTube playlist for Cy of S.T.’s cooking show (what can’t S.T. do?!).
To be frank, we know how much he likes Stanley Tucci based on how Cy physically reacts. He shows his fondness if you catch my drift… This is a natural reaction in male chimpanzees (or chimpanzees, in general) when they’re excited or stimulated. It’s a part of their life!
We can never truly know as to why chimps like the things that they like, but it could stem from how they were raised, things they were previously exposed to, or simply because they just find something especially captivating. For example, my friend Loulis who lives at Fauna Foundation, has a fascination with hoods and hats. Another example would be Terry’s fascination with our puffy jackets. When Terry sees us in a puffy jacket, he often gets pilo-erect and requests to touch the sleeve. We have a theory that he enjoys it because he thinks we are pilo as well. Additionally, another example would be Jamie, whose loves for boots is pure. However, we are not sure where the love stems from, perhaps she might have been raised around someone who wore that style often. Sometimes these interests are pure (like Jamie and boots), but other times these interests are based on being stimulated.
All in all, Cy is a big fan of Stanley’s work and loves when Mr. Tucci comes on the screen.
We don’t believe Stanley Tucci has been informed of his big fan, although we have tried! If you have any connections to Stanley, feel free to reach out. Cy would appreciate it!
If I had a way to let Stanley Tucci know how much Cy loves him, I surely would! But really, who doesn’t love Stanley Tucci?!
I’m not on Instagram or twitter, but if anyone is, he is married to Emily Blunt’s sister and lives in London, I believe. so if you#emily blunt or John Krasinski as well as him on it, it might make it to him
I have had a thought since reading Monday’s blog post about the pudendal swellings in female apes. What if there are male apes who do not exhibit interest in females whose anatomies indicate that they are receptive to mating? Since human primates can have same-sex attractions, I don’t see why other primates can’t be similarly oriented. I think that Annie and Missy’s love for each other is here to stay…
If I recall, Cy was also keen on pictures of Ryan Gosling in his celebrity magazines. Better him than Tom “the Sofa-jumper” Cruise, says I. Alas for Cy, this wikipedia biography indicates that Stanley T. is married. Oh well, a boy can dream, can’t he?…
After all, I speak from personal experience, having had my share of screen crushes, from the weird girl in “The Breakfast Club” to similar raven-haired gamines (all of whom invariably disappoint me when they start appearing in bad movies…yeah, I’m talkin’ to you, Audrey Tautou!).
Dear ‘sister’ Tobin,
I always think of Mave as one of my sisters, and her love for Dora is a very special one too.
Marianne, how fortunate you are to have a sister in Maeve. I can empathize with your sentiment: seven years ago when I learned from Diana that Jody had accepted my offer of Chimpanzee Pal sponsorship, I exclaimed in an e-mail to friends, “I have a new little sister!” So I did, and so I have, always.
And, at the beginning of the new year, I learned that Her Majesty had granted my reqeust to sponsor her. I need(ed) a grandmother in my life, and Neggie is just perfect.
I think Cy woukd enjoy Stanley in a 1996 movie called The Big Night and all the chimps woukd enjoy the food ptep at Stanley’s restaurant in the movie.

i agree!!
BIG NIGHT is a terrific film. The chimps would love it.
i have a friend who works with stanley on films. i will make a call.
Stop it! Mary, you rock!
Mary, this news made my day! Keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes Mr. Tucci sees the beauty in Cy and a bromance is formed.
I’m not sure what’s funnier, Cy being overjoyed at the sight of Stanley Tucci or Terry’s excitement seeing you in puffy jackets. What characters! On the same concept of Terry thinking you are pilo-erect in a puffer jacket, could Cy be excited because ST does not have hair on his head? We’ll never know but it sure is fun to think about.
(Loulis. He has always been at the top of my list of favorite chimpanzees. His face is scrumptious! You are so fortunate, Kelsi, to know him!)
What if….
we could get Stanley to visit *in a puffer jacket*!? then they could both get excited!
This is truly a delightful Blog. Thank you, Kelsi.
Oh, Cy! The chimps’ seemingly random fixations fascinate me. I suppose we can’t ask them directly, but even if we could, I wonder if they would even be able to articulate why. Sometimes you just like something because you like it and you can’t really explain why!

A video of Cy watching Stanley Tucci on screen would likely go viral.
