I sponsored today on this Day of Reckoning for the American Empire. 35 years ago this month, when the Berlin Wall came down (Nelson Mandela would emerge from three decades in prison soon thereafter) and the Cold War had come to an end, there seemed to be a possibility that, perhaps, the human race could repair and reverse the damage it had imposed upon the Earth’s climate.
