Burrito is such a fun-loving chimpanzee. He easily entertains himself, thinks everything is a toy, and seems to look at life with the “glass half full” mentality. I remember about a year or two ago, I asked my mom what chimpanzee she liked the most (she doesn’t know them personally, but follows very closely on the blog). Without hesitating, she answered, “Burrito!”. When I asked her reasoning, she said that he has overcome a lot and has a great zest for life. His happiness stood out to her.
It stands out to me too! Despite working here for a few years, I’m still amazed at how he is always bouncing around. We should all be more like Burrito! It’s quite refreshing.
Guess what?! Ornaments of some of the chimps are up on the auction site now! Check back daily for more items to bid on!

I should not be preferential, but, I,too, get, much, joy and laughter from watching Burrito’s antics and personality. He is a riot! I love his constantly, having a wooden block in his mouth. He is, always, engaging with a ball, or, some, other, toy. I see that he is, so, observant, and, I love that he is unrestrained and happy!

What a fun-loving guy. we shoukd all have a “Burrito” attitude about life.

I’m thinking Burrito is a glass-overflowing-with-your-most-favorite-smoothie kind of guy! He certainly seems to be more relaxed and ridiculously sillier every year. Look how Joe Cool he looks with legs crossed, chillin’ with is big red ball. How amazing it must feel to have Burrito as your friend! Oh Jenna, you just might be the luckiest girl in the world.

You beat me o it with the “cup overflowing”.
I’m always happy to see that he’s like this alone, too, and that it’s not all about being silly to entertain the humans

Oh, Bubba! You always brighten my day! I love how even when you’re relaxing, you’re still being silly!
After a difficult week, seeing Bubbie being his silly, crazy self cheers me up immensely! Also, finding out that the last Alamagordo chimps are going to Chimp Haven! I think this is where Neggie’s daughter Heidi and Foxie’s daughter Kelsey were from. The NIH has dragged their feet for so long, it’s amazing news!
Kathleen says
Yes! Me too!! I was thrilled to receive news about the last remaining chimpanzees at Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) finally being allowed the opportunity to go to Chimp Haven. It’s about time the NIH did the right thing. I guess it’s the old adage, better late than never.
However, I read that the NIH shared that the primary reason for the decision to move the chimps is that a significant number of current APF staff plan to retire in 2025, and, due to challenges with recruitment of qualified caregivers, it is in the chimps’ best interest to transfer them to Chimp Haven. So…. this decision makes question if was really in the chimps best interest or now, with this new situation, the best interest for the NIH. Nevertheless it is a win for the chimps. Yay!!!
Linda C says
For them, of course, you’re right.
But Every day that a chimp gets to feel the sun on its face and grass beneath its feet is a win!

Yes, I too read with great happiness that these chimps will now be in a loving place at last. As a former president entitled his book, The Audacity of Hope. May their time left on this planet be filled with Comfort and Joy. That reminds me to check who outbid me again on the auction.

There is nothing that puts a smile on one’s face faster than (a) BURRITO. 🙂

“Be more Burrito” is now my new motto in life.
And I love how carefully he puts that cup down even though he’s planning to play with his ball immediately afterwards
