We’re sending our heartfelt gratitude to Lisa Stuverud for sponsoring this day of sanctuary in memory of her beloved husband, Rich Stuverud. Lisa and Rich have been supporters of the chimpanzees and their sanctuary home for many years and we’re touched to be included in such a special honoring.
“September 27th would have been my husband Rich’s 80th birthday and although he passed earlier this year I will always celebrate him and the chimpanzees and humans at CSNW he grew to embrace. CSNW is a safe spot for us, full of kindness, love, community, hard work, awareness and joy. Our summer trips, “Hoots” and enrichments are all highlights in the life we shared together and I will continue share with CSNW. Please enjoy this day and everyday!!!”
We’re thinking of you, Lisa, and hoping the chimpanzees bring your heart moments of comfort and beauty as you hold memories of Rich and your life together close. Thank you for all you both have helped make possible in the chimpanzees’ lives.

I am so sorry for your loss, Lisa. May the day being more warm memories and dare we ask for a bit of sunshine? Glad that the chimps bring your comfort and happy memories–they always make me feel better, too.

Thank you, Lisa, for sponsoring a day of sanctuary in Rick’s memory. As I wrote earlier this year in acknowledgement of another couple who were present at the sanctuary 16 years ago when the first seven chimpanzees arrived home, and met them with a car-load of blankets and toys, it is people like them and you and your spouse who contributed to the chance of the sanctuary residents to live in abundance. On behalf of Burrito, Betsy, and a Willy B and a barn kitty or two, thanks to the both of you.

I am always moved when I read posts like yours, Lisa. To openly share something that is personal and very meaningful and significant in your life, and in doing so, you enrich the lives of those who call sanctuary Home. It also touches all of us. It touches me. And while I will probably never have the opportunity to meet you, Lisa, and shake your hand, look you in the eyes and chat and laugh over our love for these chimps, I feel that somehow I am connected to you and all the supporters of the sanctuary community. Your sponsorship, like many who shared their stories of those dear to them that they have lost, truly brings us all together somehow.
You are correct. CSNW is a safe spot, full of kindness, love, community, hard work, awareness, and joy, thanks to you and your husband Rich. Thank you for adding to the richness this magical place. My thoughts are with you today.
