World Chimpanzee Day 2024 Celebration

July 14, 2024 by Diana

Happy World Chimpanzee Day. I’m so glad there is a day to think about and celebrate our closest living relative, and it’s so fitting that July 14th is the anniversary of when Jane Goodall arrived to what was to become Gombe. Dr. Goodall has changed the world for chimpanzees, and has made millions of people aware of how extraordinary they are as a species and as individuals. We are all part of her legacy of scientific discovery and advocacy.

    Happy World Chimpanzee Day!
Thank you for the wonderful party, and everything you do for our Chimpanzee family.:revolving_hearts:

Aw, man, James! On this day of all days, you should have shared the love–and the oatmeal! I hope poor Fox got something, anyway.

On the other side of the house Gordito made out like a bandit with that corn!

    Thanks, Diana! Happy Chimps Day!

Was that Annie sitting watching Missy devour the lot? Until Jamie, that is! How do you ensure that she gets a share of the goodies as she’s low ranking and would never be brave enough to do what Jamie so brazenly does?

“Missy, that’s enough now” exclaimed Jamie

I noticed when Missy picked up the pace and started shoveling those oats in!
      Bubba just wanted the blackberries!

Missy got the prize!! Who is the artist and creator of that beautiful (and from the reactions of Missy and Jamie, delicious) box of goodies?! Are those letters chow biscuits or baked oatmeal? And is the writing in peanut butter? I’m loving all of it and I think I want the recipe. 😉

Looks like everyone enjoyed your efforts. Dora’s eyes are bugging out! Mave ventured out to celebrate this important occasion. Rayne found herself in a precarious position but she wasn’t letting go of her frozen watermelon! She’s so funny. Rayne could join the Olympics with her amazing sense of balance.

Happy World Chimpanzee Day! Thank you for honoring and celebrating with my favorite chimpanzees in style.

Looks like baked oats are tastier than chow cookies (though Annie seemed to enjoy the chow cookies), and peanut butter drizzle dispensed with a syringe!

    Happy World Chimpanzee Day!!
Loved seeing everyone enjoy their food. Leave it to the high rankers, Jamie and Missy to monopolize the big prize! I had to giggle when Jamie just slid it away casually. Perks of being the Boss! Poor Annie, though, she was definitely hoping Missy would share!
That Bubbie and Foxie play session was so cute! Love watching those two!
Also Mave is really getting comfortable outside! It really warms my heart to see her enjoying the forages outdoors. Gordo really loves his corn! Wow! And, of course, Rayne and Dora love their watermelon!

I’ve been looking forward to this and wasn’t disappointed – happy chimp mukbang is my new favourite sound. Love Jamie just appropriating the whole crate of goodies.

Happy world chimpanzee day! We humans are so fortunate to share the planet with these wonderful creatures. Many thanks to the CSNW caregivers for all they do, every day, for these chimpanzees so dear to our hearts!

In regards to the low rankers, do you make sure they get some treats? I must admit my heart breaks when i see the sitting left out, i know in the wild it is like that, but i would love to know if you do make sure everyone has a decent portion of the goodies. I am in awe though of the amazing parties you throw for the chimps, and i say the more the merrier as they deserve to be treated as kings and queens.

Jane, for sure! During forages, there’s generally plenty for everyone, but if we notice that some chimpanzees didn’t get enough, we will hand them food.
