Trifecta Jubilee 2024!

June 13, 2024 by Anna

Today we threw a couple of big parties for Negra (51) and Terry’s (34) birthdays as well as celebrated our sweet 16 (years of sanctuary).  This video highlights just a few of the day’s events. I couldn’t possibly squeeze it all in.

My favorite part of the day happened early on as Negra was first outside and made a trip to a higher part of Young’s hill. She stopped to eat different edible plants and clearly enjoyed the sunshine on this beautiful morning.  It was a moment very reminiscent of that classic “Negra in the Sun” oil painting by our dear friend of sanctuary Margaret. That beautiful painting has since been transformed into a mosaic by Lisa Wathne and was purchased by another friend of the sanctuary Diane Mattis.  As Diana mentioned in a blog earlier this month, Diane passed away recently and re-gifted this AMAZING mosaic back to the sanctuary for re-auction. I’m super envious of the next owner of this remarkable piece of artwork. You can bid on this mosaic and other artwork during our Sweet 16 Online Auction, happening now!

    Hi, Anna!
Amways good to hear that the Queen was first out the door!
She seemed pleased, and not a waffle or King’s roll in sight! I was so happy she didn’t sit down at the first one, but moved closer to the second one. She’s catching on!
SOMEone was very pleased in the background…wasn’t Jamie or Burrito–maybe Fox? Those food squeaks just went on and on! We even heard some dinosaur growls from Neggie, whatever was in that cup was tasty!

And you finally got Mave’s jump on tape! We’ve heard about it for so long!

Such lovely food barks from the Queen and Her Court. And what a floofy outfit Terry was sporting on his birthday! Today calls for a celebration…I trust that Bubba finally cracked open his coconut and shared the fruits (or is it a vegetable) of his labor with the Birthday Queen.

Negra knew, today is her day! Her birthday and her new beginning anniversary. She had to be the first out so she could take it all in. Quietly, on her own. Her view. Her home. How much she has grown each year. Her life, her way. And I’m guessing a little voice in her head whispered and said “So this is what dignity feels like”. Negra looked so small and peaceful sitting outside in her big, green kingdom. What a beautiful sight.

Oh the excitement of a party forage!! Watermelon Bowls! And two bowls and one cup placed conveniently for Negra to access. (You always think of everything!) Terry’s group were thrilled to be celebrating his birthday. But Terry looked the happiest, even with cheeks full of water.

Happy Trifecta Jubilee to one and all. Thank you for allowing me to come along for the ride through this magical blog.

Happy birthday Queen Negra! What a sight when the camera zoomed out to show her – looking tiny – way up there on the hill. I remember when the cabin was built for her and when that was a stretch! xo
