An Ode to Toes

June 23, 2024 by Diana

I was going wax poetic about chimpanzee toes, but I think the video does it for me.

    Great Video.
I’m always impressed/jealous of how much they use their toes and feet. Now that its summer, and I’ll be barefoot more, I’m going to try and find my inner Chimp, but as far as I know, my toes are practically useless !
I know It’s footwear that Jamie really likes, but does she ever request to see your bare feet?

      I think that’s Annie’s pedilection…er…predilection.
I can write with my right foot ..but seriously, when does that ever come in handy!?

Our toes do help us balance, I guess? I agree – my toes just sit there and aren’t that useful in comparison. Jamie isn’t much into human feet, though she does sometimes like watching us take off shoes and socks, and she wants to groom the lint of our feet :). Annie will often come over if she sees some naked human toes, though!

You’re right, there isn’t much cuter than chimpanzee toes.

clever, excellent photography!! I remember those digits well from my years volunteering with the chimps from Wildlife Waystation!!

Well that put a big smile on my face! I am fascinated by their feet, toes!, and nails. It’s amazing what those toes can do. When you’re happy and you know it rub your toes!

Ah, yes, I was emulating Foxie and rubbing my toes in anticipation that the photograph from the 7.17.2019 blog featuring Neggie’s toes grasping a couple of bananas would make the cut. Yet further proof that people like Gordo proceeded along the correct evolutionary path while we of the lower primate species took a wrong turn a few million years back.

Foxie toes are my favorite, toes, though Gorditos little flat feet are a close second.
Do you know, Diana, I’ve never noticed if Annie’s feet are as long and delicate as her hands….are they? Her hands fascinate me

Annie’s toes and feet are not as long as her fingers/hands, but do have a delicate quality.

This made me smile. Beautiful shots especially the banana in each foot one.

Yep, chimpy toes are the best! I love watching Foxie wiggle her toes. She’s just got the cutest little feet. This must be what Annie feels like when she sees human toes!

Evolution cheats us two ways: first of all, we have to stand upright and sooner or later our backs can’t take it, hence chiropractors, surgery, opiates, walkers and wheelchairs. Then, what to do with that spare banana? Where’s a functional big toe when you need it?

Trish – I was thinking this exact thing when posting this. Back issues were going to be part of my waxing poetic. And I’d dearly love to be able to grasp a banana plus a spare with my toes!

No better way to wax poetic than by posting this wonderful compilation of fabulous chimp toes! Thank you!

I used to be able to pick up things with my toes and walk with the item still curled in them if my hands were full. But sadly old age has crept up and more or less stolen that ability. But to be honest it freaked my hubby out.
