Annie is the second oldest chimpanzee at the sanctuary. She will turn 50 years old in September! She is low-ranking in her group, as she is very timid. She doesn’t want to upset Jamie, the alpha, by stepping out of line.
Annie’s best friend is Missy, but she also is often near Burrito. Although, Burrito is her shadow when she is swelling so that’s not necessarily her choice to be near him 24/7. Annie is a calm, quiet female chimpanzee but very sensitive. She hates drama and conflicts with her group members, although conflicts are perfectly normal in chimpanzee society.
Annie loves all foods and eats just about anything. She is one of the least-picky eaters we have around here!
One of my favorite things about Annie is how she bipedally walks through the grass. She bends her long-arms so the grass doesn’t touch her and then uses her arms to help move her along. It makes me laugh just about every time.
Annie makes bird-sounds with her mouth and hand when she is resting peacefully.
Annie isn’t super human-oriented, but she is very sweet to her caregivers and will offer them a kiss from time-to-time or a gentle hand touch.

Annie is a lovely lady! Love her long, slender fingers…she would make a wonderful pianist! 🙂

Annie!!! I love that sweet girl. I love how she has a bit of sass that comes out when she can get away with it. The blog from May 19, 2020 illustrates this perfectly as she stealthily siphons the boss’s smoothie right from her cup. Annie really is the best! I also adore how she washes her face and it leaves her hair sticking up!

You have obviously been following the blog for a long time, you know so much about all of the residents!

I was actually only introduced to the blog around a year ago! I’ve fallen in love with everyone, though, so I’ve gone through the blog from the beginning!

I loved the brief but very noisy video when she told Jamie off for stealing Missy’s chow at lunch time!

Annie has always been one of my favourites….along with 15 others!! I think she has made enormous progress especially as she is so timid and low ranking. She’s also one of the prettiest, and not showing her 50 years at all……please give us all your beauty secrets Annie!
Linda C says
She IS the prettiest, long hands down!

I love Annie.
There are some great photos of her walking bipedally in former blogposts that make me laugh out loud, the way she holds her hands with her long fingers make her look like a crazy alien/toddler.:revolving_hearts:

I’ve always felt a kinship with Annie. I imagine her to be an introvert like me. I also think she is one of the prettiest of the bunch; may her 50th bring her happiness.

For someone regarded as timid and dependent upon her bestie, I’ve recurrently seen Annie climb to the top of structures on Young’s Hill. Her beautiful ears accentuate the silhouette that she makes when her profile is superimposed upon a background of distant mountains. Perhaps more beautiful, though, is her absolute devotion to Missy. There can be no doubt that they love each other.

Sweet Annie just melts my heart and while she may “know her place” in terms of not upsetting alpha Jamie, Annie is a total survivor. She’s smart and has progressed in leaps and bounds.Simply put, Annie is beautiful and, yes, I would also love to know her beauty secrets of looking a very young and sassy 50 year old.

Jenna, When yesterday’s post about Riley’s gardening came out yesterday, I was wondering about the raspberries!

I have a bountiful garden with raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and many vegetables. I so wish i could share from Olympia. I would grow just for my chimp friends if i could. ?them

Jenna, I enjoyed seeing Annie’s beautiful face in my email and I felt a big smile spread across my face as clicked over to your post. What a treat to see a post all about Annie—the most beautiful girl of all. Can’t believe she will be turning 50! Like you, I giggle every time I see a photo of Annie walking upright with her arms away from her body and her long, graceful fingers positioned just so. Annie may be timed but she is also incredibly brave. Oh so brave! Annie took her time and she blossomed in her sanctuary home. Nothing makes me happier than seeing her alone, outside, taking in the view. Thank you for giving Annie a safe environment where she could find her inner courage. Love you Annie!
And I also loved all the bonus photos. Terry and Willy B!

I love sweet Annie, no one can alarm call like she can, especially if she spies a snake.

After all the comments on Annie’s long, delicate and graceful hands and fingers I laughed out loud seeing Cy’s big “paws”. I’m guessing it’s the angle of the camera creating a slight distortion but his hand looks much larger than Kelsi’s head! And his fingers are so big and thick. Thankfully Cy is a gentle giant. What a gift to sit on the other side of the window and receive a kiss from thoughtful, kind Cy!
