Riders of the Storm

January 9, 2024 by Chad de Bree

Like a good chunk of the United States, we are going through one doozy of a storm. When caregivers arrived in the morning, this is what we had waiting for us:

With most of the residents deciding not to venture too far outside (if at all), how do you try to stave off cabin fever? I wonder…

Hmmmmmmmm…….

Throughout days like today, caregivers try to offer many types of enrichment and activities to the chimpanzees.

Whether that enrichment is watching The Devil Wears Prada.

Honey B and Rayne were into the movie. (If you’re wondering, Cy is watching from a different spot.)

Forages are also a way to keep the sanctuary residents occupied.

Gordo

Willy B

We can try to perk up their afternoons with an afternoon tea time (caffeine-free of course).

Jamie

Burrito

Foxie

Or they might take matters into their own hands.

Rayne with a snow snack she grabbed from outside.

You read that right! Rayne took it upon herself to grab some snow. And that in itself started a chain reaction. Later Gordo, Mave, and Dora were seen with massive amounts of snow they gathered. Granted there may have been some thievery at play, but is the start of shifting attitudes for Rayne’s group? Only time will tell.

And for the real reason you are probably here, the winner of the Burrito photo contest!

There were many votes, and though I personally loved every single one of the photos and wanted them all to win, there can only be one that stands above the rest!

And the winner is……

Hey Girl!

Thank you all for participating and sending in your votes! Prints of this photo will soon be available for purchase – stay tuned!

Stay safe and warm wherever you might be!

Brr Brr looks like it’s freezing over there but the chimps are safe and having a good time especially watching a good film with snacks! How does barn Kitty cope with the cold? I guess the barn is nice and snug and a warm haven. No surprises for the winning photo of Buritto. He is one cool handsome guy.

Will the winning picture of Burrito be available for purchase? I would love to have it.

Yes! The post was just updated to include that bit of info. Right now, we are working on a plan to have this photo printed on 11×14 canvases.

Wow, Chad! Who would have thought, based on previous reactions to snow, that they’d choose to finally go out when there’s snow outside!?

    The Devil Wears Prada, lol.
Are they still watching DVDs? I’m curious as to how “P.S.” went over

Burrito never takes a bad picture though I do believe the lettuce head picture captured him best …..but ,I see people opted for the Elvis Presley look with the long sideburns:face_with_monocle:

Bravo to all of you dedicated people who drove over snowy, icy roads to get to work today. i’m thinking the photo’s caption had a lot to do with winning votes. Congratulations; ll the photos were good. Let’s do it again. A movie afternoon when it snows. i’m sitting here thinking who is the big fashion and/or Merryl Streep fan in this group.

I think, compared to what they got last year at Christmas, this might be a “dusting”

“The Devil Wears Prada”? Well, I trust that Raynie and Beezie enjoyed their matinee.

I wonder if two Talking Heads movies “Stop Making Sense” and “True Stories” might appeal to some of the Chimpers? Neggie might enjoy David Byrne dancing in his oversized suit.

Meanwhile… weather and Veterinarians permitting…I hope that Meredith can return to her mom, aunty and Nutmeg soon.

The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite movies, I would love to have watched it with Honey B and Rayne.
A fist full of snow doesn’t sound to appealing to me but I’m glad they ventured out long enough to grab some.
I’m looking forward to purchasing the beautiful picture of Burrito and Tobin, I think Neggie would love seeing David Byrne in the big suit too, I did.

I get it. Cabin fever has spread in my little corner of the planet, too. I need to be more creative like you! You make a winter storm look like fun.

The Devil Wears Prada. Really?! That’s so funny. Did Willy B join the movie goers? Or is he still loyal to Shrek? The tea party appears to be a hit.

Snow snacking Rayne. I am assuming she grabbed a handful from the chute as opposed to heading outside into the snowy Bray? (With Rayne, you never know!) Either way, are the Californians actually warming up to snow?!

Love the winning photo. Like you, I thought each photo was a winner and together they showed the many sides of our lovable Burrito. (Don’t tell anyone, but I did vote for all of them a couple of times!)
